this evening i went out to feed the puppies and let them out to play in the yard. after a couple minutes i decided to see if they would play with my hat. i figured tug of war would be good as they are only ten weeks old. to my supprise, i had three puppies (thats all of them) treeing on my hat on a fence post. two had fast chops, and one had a really sool big bawl mouth. to me at ten weeks old, that was really neet. atleast they have the tree in them is what i thought. and their mouths were less to be desired except for the one. all in all, its always fun to raise puppies that you can say that were raised by me in my own back yard.
atleast when they are puppies, there are endless possibilities! thats what keeps me going.

Sounds like fun...sounds like you have some certified hat hounds! That may come in handy, I'm real good at loosing winter hats in the woods and a hound that would tree it for me would be priceless
Thats cool your pups are doing that. I agree with you; raising pups by your self is the only way to go. I was talking to my buddy the other day on the phone and we were remenising about raising pups and how even though it's a ton of work, there is NOTHING more rewarding! Good luck and keep us posted.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I am the same way. Without a young dog whose potential has not been completely seen yet, I lose motivation. With that young dog, I cant think of anything but getting her to the woods to find out how deep her gifts are going to take her. I also know that I have never been too happy with a dog that I did not raise myself from a puppy.walkersrule wrote: all in all, its always fun to raise puppies that you can say that were raised by me in my own back yard.

On the other hand, I have known a couple people who should never be allowed to raise a puppy. Hard hunters, but could not turn a puppy into a great hunting dog if their lives depended on it. Or, they could if the pup had one certain type of personality, but anything outside of that one type will never make it with them. That one type is the pup that is going to make a dog in spite of their "trainer", not because of him.
It is nice to see some tree sense early. Sometimes is scares me if it seems too genenticly strong. I dont mind it in bobcat dogs if they have to learn to tree a little bit.
I had a 5 foot tall pen at one point and I built ladders for me to go in and out and a rail along the top where I could walk or stand. This was to teach the puppys about creatures that climb from the time they could see. It was amazing to watch at what age different pups and different breeding gets the ability to look up. There are pups that absolutely cannot look up. When your feet get above their periferal vision, you might as well be on the moon, because to them you disapeared completely. They can not find you no matter what you do or say. Then there are pups that will visually follow you up that ladder from a few weeks old. It was interesting and surprising to see the huge difference.
Sounds like you got your hands full Jimmy. What is the breeding on the pups?
Have fun!
