Re: price scale on dogs
You do not have enough information. Regaurdless of what anyone says, registered dogs will bring a bit more money, males will usaully bring more money. Breed is very important whether people want to admitt it or not. How much game has the dog been on? Some people want to know what the parants have been hunted on and what the siblings are hunted on and how they are doing.
The more good you can put on the dogs the better chance you will have to sell them and for the price you want.

I agree. There is so much more to consider and look at. Varies from dog to dog. Also consider can the dog catch game by itself or needs a crowd. Also consider if you were buying the dog what would you feel was a fair price for the dog and its ability and your 500 dollar dog may be someone elses 1500 dollar dog.

Re: price scale on dogs
How do they act around the house? You say they have good manners, but who put the handle on them, your definition of manners may be opposite of mine. If you have to load a 2 year old dog up by putting it on a leash, it ain't trained.
Were these cats in 3 feets of lush snow, or in dry ground?
It is true, males usually sell for more then females... And even though I know it is completely untrue, some believe Plotts can't smell (I guess we know something everyone else don't) so good luck trying to sell Plotts that run lions.
Do you have all these cats on tape? Or just the stories?
The 2 year old has been on that many bobcats and isn't broke? is he a pack dog or can catch all these by himself?
That is really a lot of game to be catching... Does the person who put all these dogs on game have a job, or is he 100% dog man, this is how he makes his living and he lost 2 wives due to dogs? Cuz if he works 9-5, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, I'm gonna call BS that these dogs have seen this much... Unless they watch Animal Planet all the time.
Combine all our questions, then re-advertise the dogs so we could maybe try to get a fake price for fake dogs set up

Re: price scale on dogs
you guys just wont give me a answer. when i say minds good i meen if your roading them and you say load up you only have to say it once.if you stop they dont jump down untill you call them off the box.if you have to lead a 2 yr old dog to truck to load it up, i dont even have a response. i was just trying to get some insite on what you guys think dogs are worth these days.all of these dogs do it all from truck to tree by there self.they will stayed treed for 12 hrs by there self and longer with another dog.they will hunt dry ground or snow.oregon coast brush is where thy have been hunted so they are not going to do very well out in the deasert on dry ground but good in the snow.remember these are dogs i just made up to see what you think dogs should sell for. i would say dog #1 is worth 5,000- 7,000. #2 3,000-5,000 #3 4,000-5,000 #4 2,000-3000 depending on where you live and how you hunt.

Re: price scale on dogs
First off I would never buy a finished dog from anybody at any price no matter what they could do. Bottom line if I didn't raise and train that hound it ain't gonna live in my backyard. On your idea of prices, however, I'd say you are pretty close on each and every one of them. I've seen two year old hounds go for three to five thousand dollars around here, and to my knowlewdge none (at the time they were sold) of them ever caught their own lion, bear or bobcat.
There was a post on value of a good bobcat dog awhile back and the prices went as high as six to eight thousand bucks I believe? Good luck.....

Re: price scale on dogs
This isn't gonna answer your question but i hope it helps.
A friend of mine has a three year old male dog. He said that he is as nice of a male dog as he has ever owned. To me, that is saying alot. He guides for a living and sales all of his dogs, usually between the ages of 5 to 7 to help support his income. Anyway he was offered $7,500.00 for this dog and turned it down. If that was my dog, he would have been gone.
I have a female dog that i was offered $5000.00 for. I in NO way think that this dog is worth that much money. I have had this dog sold three different times. Everytime to a friend. She was sold the first time for 2 bags of dogfood (seriously) and the last for $5000.00. I was ready to take either deal at the time and the only reason the dog is still around is because of my wife "thankfully".
People have so many different ideas about a hound and what they should do and for what kinda money. I guess you just have to put a price on a dog that you feel comfortable with. Hopefully at the end of the day the buyer and seller feel good about the deal.
Good luck

Re: price scale on dogs
I think your prices are a little high on the last two. And if they are mostly snow dogs they are all high imo. Dogs that are mainly snow dogs should be half the price of dirt dogs. But a dog is worth what someone will pay for it i guess. There are people that dump $20,000 on dogs and go lion huning and there are guys that spend $2000 and go hunting. For the price you have they should be hammer down dirt dogs imo. What breed are your "make believe" dogs.

Re: price scale on dogs
Plus you can buy dogs for that price that will work well in the desert not just your coastal brush country and snow.

Re: price scale on dogs
AZ, i have seen southwest dry ground new mexico outfitter dogs get their butts kicked out in the utah west desert in the snow before. Dry ground lion hound, does have a ring to it though. And i would bet you could get more money for them any given day if they are proven dogs. No question they are harder to find.
I still think that there are good dogs everywhere. Some of them just get stuck with idiots, others with weekend warriors and some in states that only let you hunt in the snow.
What i'm looking for is a serious "mud dog"! You know the one that keeps trailing......scratch that, the one that catches when its 2:00pm and you are on a south slope in a pile of mud after trailing 16 miles that day. Thats the one i would try to buy.....if i had any money.
They are only dogs and some days they just can't overcome mother nature no matter how much you pay for them.
Best of luck fellas, hunt them when you can.
