What are you reading?

Post by Riverbottom »

I read a lot, don't watch TV much at all. I just don't care for the crap they put on TV now days. I can read what ever I want. I'm always looking for good authors to read. Know any good ones?

One of the authors I like best is Elmer Kelton. His worst books are pretty good, his best are about as good as they get, if you like westerns. Stand Proud and The Man Who Rode Midnight are the ones I like best. Elmer don't write about heroes that kill 50 bad guys with a six shooter that never has to be reloaded. He tells it the way it really was. He can describe that cranky old rancher you know that is tougher than boot leather right down to a T.

I just got his latest book, Other Men's Horses from the library. It starts right out like this:
"Cletus Slocum stole Donley Bannister's best horse and crippled it. Now Slocum lay facedown in the dirt, as dead as he would ever be."

Elmer just passed away in August.
