You will get a lot of different responses, some say it makes for better socializing, others say you should never do it. Do what works for you. Now I will say dont put to alpha males, or two males for that matter together. You will more then likely have fighting problems, not always. But if you have mostly females and one male then its not problem unless your females come into heat then you are going to have more pups then you know what to do with. It all comes down to what dogs you have, males or females. Females it would work out well, males probably not so much.

I currently have 5 males together. This is my 11th year keeping all dogs together. I ONLY run males and this helps. 3 dogs are cut, two aren't. If your dogs are aggressive in nature, then keeping them together may not work. All of my dogs are kept together from a very young age and grow up learning the pack socialism. I've never had a single fight. They learn from a young age how to get along. I probably wouldn't try this with all new dogs if they were older. I think you'd have problems. I kept hounds in kennels before this for 15 years. I would never go back. This has taken care of a lot of problems like boredom, barking, feet not conditioned and even helps keep them warm on cold nights since they all sleep in one large 8 foot long insulated dog box. Seriously consider if you are going to ever breed your hounds. I think there is way too much breeding of hounds that shouldn't be bred. Leave that up to the pros on here that are way better at it then most of us could ever be. Stick with only females or males and you shouldn't have any problems.

I can throw all my males together and never have a problem. My two females are a different story. Don't know why but my 7 year old female hates the 2 year old female. They get along when they are out running but I can't keep them together in a box or pen. The older female is fine around every other dog she's been around. I think it comes down to the personality of the dogs and how much exposure they have been given.

Well,
I have seen a lot of guys keep dogs both ways. Dean (Fullcry) is one of the best examples of keeping all males together with no problems.. But, one of my best friends had a few females together for a year or two..no problems at all, and then one day the older female got a little growly at the food dish, and the other dogs (the worst was her own daughter) turned on her and would have killed her if not for intervention.. I have thought that many times (not always) all the dogs together is a ticking time bomb. Maybe it doesn't go off, but maybe it does. If it does, the results aren't good. I have never had a problem with mine kenneled separate and hunted together. It is a little more trouble, but I don't have any fights or unplanned pregnancies..

Best of luck with your dogs, and good luck with the kennel arrangements.. KattKrapp
