Re: NIGHT hunting cats !!!!
Anything will tree at night, same as the day time, we just cant see as well. Make sure its legal where you hunt or in your state. I would rather hunt during the day then the night but at night is usually when the cats are moving and sometimes it snows during the day and you want to go out at night so you can cut a fresh one. Its a preference I guess.

A man is not very smart that can,t find his wife 2 jobs.
And any wife should be able to support her man and a pack of hounds.

I like night hunting cats, except in the cold of winter, then day is best.
we hunt year around here ,so most of time is after dark.
The dogs can smell better at night, the conditions are just better , after midnight is best I think.

Re: NIGHT hunting cats !!!!
I'm no expert by any means, but your location and the habits of the cats in that area will determine what time of day is best for successful hunting.
I run cats on private ranches in the coastal foothills of Northern California where it is overwhelmingly better to hunt at night as opposed to the day. I think cats, being largely elusive in nature, prefer to move under the cover of darkness, but are influenced more by their need for food. Areas with warmer temperatures affording an easier lifestyle allow cats to be more selective about when they eat as opposed to a cat living in a colder climate or sparser area who must hunt more often. The caloric intake requirement of a cat living in colder temperatures is much greater, so the time they must spend hunting is much greater resulting in a greater likelihood of having to remain active during the day.

thank you all !!! i im happy to tell every one that i went out this morning went on a good a good chase and tree and ended up with a beautiful 25 pound tom.
Re: NIGHT hunting cats !!!!
it doesnt make much difference night or day as far as them treeing. if you have a dog that will coldtrail there isnt much need to night hunt unless you just like it.

I was told by the vetern cat hunters around here that the best time to go out looking for tracks is between 1 and 3 am. Thats when they are the most active for our area. When 30 + years of experience talk i tend to listen.
