grizzly meat?

Post by wiwalkerman »

This subject came up at the local coffee shop. After watching countless hours of hunting shows on tv we have never seen anybody talk about eating grizzly meat. I was wondering if anybody has and if so how does it compare to black bear? Is it to hard/costly to recover the meat in the areas where they can be hunted?

It is basically inedible. We had a client last year that wanted to try it. So we let him. He only ate one bite. Alaska is very strick on making sure all meat is salvaged for human consumption but they do not require Grizzly meat to be brought out of the field.

I can tell you from 1 experience only up in BC . They do eat a lot of carrion . It is one thing to dress out a grizzly and get that PUNGENT smell. But when you are skinning out only and the carcus still smells It is something I would never eat . While we all know bears and hogs are cannabalistic , It is the only time I have ever seen another grizzly feeding on another grizzly carcus.
