Last kitty for 09
Last kitty for 09
Well my girlfriends 9 year old has never got to go hunting and has been begging me to take him hunting for the last year,so the other night i told him to load up if he wanted to go bobber hunting.I loaded the dogs and went and picked up my buddy (redtickwalker) and we went to our honey hole for bobbers and coons. We found a deer that someone had shot and gutted out and after careful examination my buddy found a bobber track. All we had was his two pups and my one that is in this picture and my two older dogs.I grabbed out my old dog (the one the kids have turned into a couch patatoe) and stuck her nose in the track. She took off up the hill opening every breath! My buddy turned his puppy in and it too went screamin over the hill in hot persuit. It was'nt long before they came back down the hill and locked down solid treed on a little tree about 12 feet tall.It was about 50 yards or so up the hill from the truck in some nasty, bluffy rock slides. We dragged little parker and the rest of the pups up the hill with us to his first cat tree
He was absolutely thrilled!! We let the puppies tree for a while before we shot him out. They did great and Im thinkin they are all gonna make some great cat dogs! It was a great big old tom cat too.We didnt weigh it,but it sure was a dandy! The best thing was seeing Parker so excited about the hunt and the dogs.It reminded me of when I was his age.Now he wont stop begging his mom for a hound pup.I might be in the dog house soon for that one
Anyways,it was a great end to a great year and even better to see this little fella smile the whole way home and to hear him talk about how cool hunting with dogs is
You can tell by the picture that he is a happy little guy

Great Cat!
Great Pics! Great Story!
Greater that you have a youngster envolved in the Pleasure of the Chase!
A Pup is a lot cheaper than fixing some of the problems that Todays Society have brought our youngsters...following a Pup around the woods will be much better for him and less expensive for the parents!
Happy New Year and keep after them!

With such an enjoyable experience and gorgeous cat like that, little Parker may just have caught this terminal disease the rest of us call the love of hound hunting.
Re: Last kitty for 09
Well, I think you may be right
He asks me every night since that night if we are gonna go hunting in the morning.I think he is hooked
I took him out last night to see if we could get after a coon or another kitty and he was sooooo excited to be out.He said that he doesnt understand why grown ups go to the bars and do drugs when they could be out doing this instead
I think he is headin in the right direction at least.I just hope he maintains that thought pattern till he gets older. He is into it for sure.We saw 3 coons and one bobber last night, so he is thinkin that he has pretty good luck in this dog thing
We didnt catch any of them though cause they were all accross the snake river and its to darn cold to swim

It definitely worked out that way for me. I was 10 when I went on my first hound hunt; we ran a coon into a hollow log and got a dog killed on the highway, yet I was hooked for life.
In high school, my parents never had to worry about me getting into trouble with drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, crime, etc, because I was always out with my buddies and our dogs...instead, they got to worry about bear and hogs in the brush, rattlesnakes, cold creeks and rivers, sliding down cliffs on your backside, and the truck breaking down on a cold winter's night in the middle of nowhere! Fair trade-off, I'd say!

Hey, I love to see the smile on Parker's face! That is what it's all about!! You big guys are doing a pretty good job of looking happy too. I hope the pups turn out great. Cali sure is a good looking pup, like her Mama Cricket. I will always enjoy the memories of hunting with her on that snowy January a couple of years ago. Keep up the good work - MOM

HUNT PLOTTS OR HUNT NOTHING AT ALL!!!
Re: Last kitty for 09
Haha. Yeah,I aint had a good plott dog for a few years now.My best dog of my whole life was an old plott named Renegade that I had since I was 16.He finally got to old to go the year after I moved over to Idaho. He was a dandy though for sure.If I had a whole pack of Renegades,it may be unfair to the cats
gotta think about conservation,so I better stick with what I got
They just weed out the easy and slow ones now and then
