FullCryHounds,
Ive seen you advocate for keeping your dogs all together in an acre, just one question. Do you have to go around picking up their crap everywhere? Im just curious since I hope to be moving to a different house with land and I was thinking of building them some nice kennels so it makes clean up easier. They just have a backyard now and its a pain in this small area to clean up. Maybe you have some pics of that big dog house you have too? Just wanted some ideas and sounds like you got it figured out like I want.
And everyone else, if you have some really fancy looking kennels I would love to see the pics. If I do build them I was thinking of like a kennel garage type set up so I can do other work in there too so if you got something like that I would love to see them!

Re: FullCryHounds
Im moving soon, hopefully ordering the house this next week, and we have 5 acres, Ill probably fence off an acre to half an acre just for the dogs. Although I got a couple that dont get along all the time so they will mostly be kenneled on the backside of our shop in seperate kennels at night. They do well together all day except at feeding time or if they have a bone. When it comes to dead game, i.e. bears, they have no problems or at the tree but food is a different story, cant get them to stop either. FullCry did it right though, he gets rid of dogs that are growly, this dog has too much potential for me to get rid of though, some may still get rid of them but Im not, almost shot him a couple times but he's a sweet dog just not to male dogs at feeding time. If you got climbers you might want to think of how you are going to build your fenced in area as well. Im going to have to figure out how high to make it and how to make it like a prison fence so they cant jump out, no more hounds in our new house except in the mud room at times. Good luck, hopefully someone has some pics of their setup for you!

Yeah Im lucky, no fence jumpers here just thinking of it for ease of cleaning. I would still keep them all together. I was thinking of like a barn looking structure with fencing on the sides and around the back with doors that go to the inside on both sides. And large enough I can keep the atv in there and all the dog junk and food and tools and crap like a big garage. For the fence I was gonna use poles sunk in at 4' intervals and that thick wire fencing welded to the poles. I wish I could draw a picture and post it on here to get better comments and criticisms lol

Been out hunting the past 3 days and I'm whooped, the dogs are whooped and I'm taking tomorrow off, so I'll post some pics and answer your questions.

Re: FullCryHounds
My run is 100 yards long with five foot high "field fence" around it with a 10x15 foot building in the middle that is divided into two sides. One side of it has an 8 foot long insulated dog box with one entry door at the one end. All the dogs sleep inside this one box when its cold out. The top of this box also has straw on it so the dogs can sleep on top of it when its warmer out. This area faces south for more sun in the winter. I have one, five gallon, insulated, heated bucket in this area for all the dogs. One flood light lights up this area. On the other side of this building, I have a 55 gal plastic barrel that I keep full of dry food. This area is where all the dogs eat. They all eat about 2-3 feet from each other and take there places when I go out to feed. (put down the food to the slowest eaters first so they all get done about the same time). This area also has its own flood light. I also keep extra dog boxes and other supplies here. The dogs have the run of all these areas all the time.
As far as cleaning up, the dogs all end up going in the same corner of the run (usually) and so once a week or so, its pretty quick to pick everything up.
I clean and refill the water bucket every other day.
