Our Cougar hunts.......UPDATE...............................

Well you guys can try to put this hunt in any category you want but lets get realistic, we don't know, the wdfw don't know and county/state legislators don't know what this hunt is! It started because of public safety has been changed by wdfw and wildlife commision, they have someone who really knows nothing about hound hunting or management pipe in and say everyone needs to be able to put in, the wdfw sees more dollars in there pocket love the idea! Wdfw enforcement does not want to have to be out patrolling (which is their job but thats another story) so they make sure seasons close early, which they have stated after quota is met hunter participation in pursuit is hardly existent! Biologist would love to study the effects but they fight enforcement and politicians changing rules every year so variables change. Lets by honest wdfw put no dog late permits starting dec 1 in 6 counties Steven-Pend Oreille was closed after 2 days there was no lion season during Nov. i would like to know how many cats were checked in between dec1 and dec18 my guess is if some cats were checked in some hounds were out raccoon hunting and happen to tree a lion, and harvested on a no dog tag. Sorry i'm rambling point is the rules and guidelines get changed by wdfw and wildlife commission every year that they don't have any idea other than state legislature told them to have a hunt with dogs and they're trying to make money with the least amount of work is what this hunt is! And its not getting better next year which is the last year unless state lawmakers extend it again or make it permanent! Just hunting with hounds the rules can change every year

Hounddawger, Klickitat is an awsome unit, there is a lot of private ground down low but there are a ton of cats there and some huge cats. I agree with the tom only hunts, but I believe the hunts should only be for houndsman. And I believe if you harvest a female that you should not be allowed to apply for 5 years. Nothing legal should happen because we don't want any ground checking to happen. Just lose your right to apply for 5.

Yeah but I think it all melted. It has been in the 40's from last Saturday til Wednesday. I heard they killed a nice Tom there last weekend, had a collar on him. Was collared up at Cle Elum.

I have heard that two cats that were collared in Ferry county are in oregon right now, another is in King county, and a few ended up back in Canada.

I would venture to say that the 80-100 mile range that everyone talks about these toms have are BS. I think their range is any place these cats decide to travel is home.

Add to my update from last week.

Chelan-1 female or 4 total. Nothing killed this week
Okanogan-CLOSED. Way to go we those 3 females out of there.
Okanogan Ferry- 3 females or 8 total. We were able to kill 4 of those nasty females this week

Stevens Pend Or.-CLOSED
Klickitat-1 female or 2 total. Nothing killed this week..

Next year is our last year on these hunts unless we can prove that this is working.

If you have one of these tags and your area is closed. Please keep pursuiting these cats. We have to drive them back into the woods to prove that with hounds the cats will be less of a nuisance. Keep running the wheels off these cats.. Ask another buddy to go, just keep hunting. But make sure YOU KEEP IT LEGAL................................
