Re: do you guys run those color lights
I've used glow sticks and keep losing them in the brush.. I have lighted collars.. I have a couple of the Magnum Lighted collars and also have the new Tracers that you can put on your tritronics.. They are bitchin.. I will not turn a dog out at night without a light on them.. I use the Tracers now more then the Magnums.
I don't have any pictures with the Tracers but they are bright.. You can see the dogs from quite a ways away...
The downfall of the Magnum is the fact that it is a seperate collar.. I usually use them on the dogs I don't run TT on... But they are 8000 hour batteries... but, like a tracking collar you have to send it in to have the batteries changed..
The Tracer, you just add onto your TT... But it will use the battery faster.. You can put it so it either flashes or is a steady light.. I have yet to make my collar go dead from using the light..
I also have one of those small lights you slip onto a collar and twist to turn on.. I think they are about $20.00.. I really don't like it as it turns on the collar and always ends up under the neck.. I generally use it if I've ran out of lights and still have more dogs to collar up..

I use the Tracker collar lights that are made to slip onto the collar. They tough and bright. I also have the tracer light for my tritronics collars, they are nice but I think the Tracker lights are more visible because they are up higher on the dog and can be seen from all directions. I won't night hunt without lights.

You don't have problems with your Tracker rolling with the collar? Mine rolls... And ends up under the dog

Re: do you guys run those color lights
I have a Magnum Tracker for my dog... Its the Blue which isn't as bright as the Red, Yellow or White, but you can still see if from a distance away.
Haven't seen a tracer light for the TT, but would def. like to see one in action where we hunt. Dog has enough collars on as it is, would be nice to loose on if I could. Or atleast have an alternative..

Re: do you guys run those color lights
I have one of the Marshall collars with the LED and it is bright. On weekends, I have great fun scaring the crap out of joggers with the hound that wears it! I've seen more than one turn tail and go back where they came from! Even in the daytime, it makes him easier to see in the woods.
I also have a couple of the slip-on lights and have never had one turn over. Melanie, maybe its something about the style collar you use? They are not as bright as the Marshall, but the price is right.
The lights also help keep the yotes away. Sure makes it easier to catch the hound up again, and it is invaluable when training a pup. You'd be amazed how often they are a lot closer than you think, and you can definitely see whether their head is down or up.

Re: do you guys run those color lights
in my opionion collar lights are dumb, makes a great target for the pissed off land owner who other wise could not see your dog from a distance.
i run my dogs with a garmin, if it tells me the dogs are 50 yards away why do i need a light on the dog to confirm that???
between the trackers and the dogs makin noise that is all the more i need to know where they are at.

Re: do you guys run those color lights
I don't have a Garmin so I use lights
And I tend to not coonhunt on private property
I have mixed feelings about Garmins.. They are nice, but I sure have seen houndsmen go downhill since they started using them... They rely on those way too much and don't know their dogs.. But.. I guess that is a topic for a different thread
And that is just my opinion

I have used both a lighted collar and slip on lights, I like to know which direction she's headed, or if she's screwing around instead of hunting. Also came in handy one night several coyote's moved in on her, kept me from shooting my own dog.

I use the tracer's and the Garmin on my dogs.
I know where my dogs are. That is not why I use the lights. I use them so that if and when my dogs hit a road people can see them better. Where I hunt, there are kids that wheel and people just driving in the woods doing god knows what. That light has saved my dogs a few times when people come around corners and can see them..
I want to keep my dogs as safe as I can...

Re: do you guys run those color lights
I use the Magnum lighted collars, and have had all of them except green. They work great. I always put em on and then turn em so that they sit on top of the dogs neck. I do agree it's a downfall to have an extra collar. I've wanted to get a few of the Tracers, but the dogs I typically hunt at night don't need a shocking collar - so it doesn't hurt to run a Magnum + Tracking collar.
I also have Marshall Lighted Tracking collar. No comparison, it's the best. Best tracking collar, and as bright of lights as any of the lighted collars. I'm going on 4 months of hunting (bear and coon) without changing the battieries.
You just need a dog like Aspen
Like the night I went on the Nite Hunt with no collars at all - forgot everything back at the club.
Blue & Orange Magnums

Orange Magnum

White Magnum

All the guys I coon hunt with like the slip on tracker brand lights...The tracers are OK but they are under your dogs neck and I don't see them as well as the tracker lights...When we go out and the dogs go running by it looks like a pack of disco balls or christmas trees! haha....But, we've yet to have a dog hit by a car while wearing them

A friend of mine buys Nite Lite's immitation of the Tracker lights, the ones you can Rivit (sp?) onto the collars. She swears by them. They are cheap and just a bright and tough as the Trackers. She just mounts them on the Tracking Collar, Regular Collar, or a designated "Cooning" collar. They are rivited on there, so thesy don't turn. I believe they turn off easily, so I don't see why thry couldn't just be on the dogs normal collar. They are cheap enough it wouldn't hurt to replace them every now and then.

Re: do you guys run those color lights
Thanks 'sandra
I might try one of those next time.. I am actually to the point where I have more lighted collars then dogs
so I haven't been using that Tracker much.. Maybe I just have my collar to loose in the first place.. I have only used it on my pup and I leave her a little growing room in her collar..
Do you have issues with a light going out in the Magnums? I have one that sometimes all 3 lights are lite, the other time only two..
The green Magnum is probably my least favorite of them all.. It is a toss up between the green and orange.. I have one in every color.. White, Red, Blue, Orange and Green.. The white and blue are the brightest with the red behind it...
