Well you guys made me jealous with all that 6 to 15 coons anight talk, so i wen tout last nigh and told my cousin were gonna tree every coon we can, took my 2year old clifford dog (redbone/black-n-tan/july foxhound) and maggie my 1 year old english female her first time ever to the woods and has not even seen a caged coon before, so as you can see i was loaded to the max with dog power let clifford strike, released maggie to him,she worked like a champ on it. Ran it to a den tree,sent my cousin up to look in ( our tress are only 30 to 40 feet high max) he looks into the base of this hollow black jack tree which is only about 15 feet tall and starts trying to get back down with extreme energy, gets down tells me it's a badger, I laughed my but off making him alittle mad i think.So I crawled up thinking do we even have any badgers around here looked down into the tree and it's a monster coon. squaled and he would look up at my light and grow bugged him for awhile hoping he would crawl out. but he wasnt budging. dumped again this is 2 hours later, from the last dump out. tree one let the dogs tree awile leave him to run again cause he is kinda alittle hungry looking coon, my cousin leaves him a snack cake up on a limb to say thanks.Walk out to the road & meet some other hound hunters up from around Tulsa talk awhile on the side of the road,Leave and go dump again clifford strikes and moves on out fast enough i wonder to myself if it's maybe a deer, drive around the country trying to get to him and cant find him now. Finally against my better judgment and my cousins bugging the hell out of me just dump maggie out to shut her & Him up and she ends up treeing a coon by herself, he is telling me how much he knows about this coon/cat hunting even though he has never owned a hound one so now i am pumped up cause this is Maggie's first time out ever and she is doing awesome running every track herself and treeing this one. finnnaly hear clifford treeing way off and go to him he is treed with a single way up top. walked 750 miles crashed through a hundred sticker bushes got lost once big time and treed a grand total of 4, and gave it up at 3:00am.

Maybe i didnt get 6 or 9 or 11 but i am dam proud of maggie and didnt run a hog,deer or coyote so i'll say it was a good night that we worked hard for down here, proud of these two pot lickers

There are not a great amount of coons wear i hunt.I usualy tree 1-3 coons.

The best night we had was last year got 19 in one night. On ave. we get 7-10. But we are also hunting on duck clubs that are just loaded with coon most nights we only get to hunt 1/2 way around the club before we call it a night about a 4 hr hunt. There has been more then a few times when driving out we have had coons running across the road infront of us on they way out. Before I started hunting down at the clubs my ave. was 1-3 per night with 5 being my best night and we hunted most nights for 8 hrs.

eastern washington average 2-3 best is always when the irragation canals dry up and they go after the clams 12 coons next best is when they dump water over the dams and the river drops and ... they go for the fresh water clams

I was not exaggerating by any means and was being truthful. The 11 coon night was more luck than anything. I am very fortunate to live where I live. I can literally open my front gate and release the hounds into some of the better coon hunting in Montana (still nothing compared to other areas or states). I live on a river bottom and I don't shoot every coon in the country so there are a fair number of coons.

I have hunted around the Billings area several times for pleasure and for competition. I just might take you up on your offer to come hunting. I have also hunted just outside of Custer (near Hardin) on the Yellowstone. Great coon hunting to be had.

Just last week we had a warm stretch of weather and the coons came out. My hounds put up seven coons in four different races in about three hours. One thing I love about this area is that we can hunt lions in the day (during the season of course) and then coon hunt that same night (if the conditions are right).

I am happy to get one a night. And at times I think I catch the only one in the woods. Coon populations are pretty spotty out here.

The average around here for a "got to work the next day" coonhunt is 2 or 3. The best I have done is 9 singles in one night.

i caught 14 coons and 6 mt lions and 11 bobcats 18 black bears and 3 grizzly in the same night and the weird thing was they where all in the same tree

I also hunt a lot of the rice feilds and duck clubs between willows and maxwell. They are loaded with coons and most people are more than happy to have you out there because of the duck and pheasant eggs they eat. I would have to say when I hunt this country it is an average of 7-8 coons a night. Duck season just ended so I will start coon hunting now. I have had nights where i didn't have dogs and just drove around and have seen around 20 coons in a night. There is an unbelievable abondance of them around here.

Hi im from oklahoma. Couldn't help but notice waylons comment about treeing 6 coon in one night would be a big deal in oklahoma you'd almost be a lier if u said u did so. I guess he needs to go hunting with us some night and see what real hounds are. Just got back to coon hunting this past summer after about a 10 year break and no i didn't go to prison just started running beagles after my old dogs died of old age. The dogs i own now are not near the hounds i had don't know if they make them like they did back then but one thing about it they sure like to tree now. But there must be 10 times as many coons now then when i usta hunt. Seems like anywere u cut a dog loose they will strike. I guess what im trying to say is that anyone that has never had a dog that couldn't tree 6 coon in a night down here should've invested in 22 shells instead of dog feed.
