Hey Guys !

i am new to the forum but was reading in a little before , like what i see so i joined
i grew up hunting with dogs (about every kind there is )
well years agao my dad slowly got out of dog hunting and more into deer , and as i moved away i moved into town and started hunted deer harder than ever but for some reason was addicted to cats !
so i started trapping but just for cats
every winter i have a couple of cat baits out and never always get to sit them
and have always wanted to run them
but since theres not many poeple hunting them or most being secretive , i have no idea who to start with
i think it would be better to be a tag along for a while , helping and handling dogs before jumping right in
so i guess my main question is , is there anyone in VT (probably northen VT) that i could maybe tag along with on some hunts
again i m not super green
we had as many as 18 hunting dogs at once and some pretty good ones as did my uncles but for some reason my dad got out of it and i want back in !
any help would be greatly appreciated

1badboy. I am from southern VT and also green in the cat hunting. I have gotten alot of help and input from this forum as well as the bear hunting forum. There are a few guys from northern VT on here and if you dont hear from any try re posting with your title telling that you are looking for a cat hunter in norhtern VT. I should tell you though that our cat season ends feb. 7 so you might be waiting until 2011 to get out there. Maybe you can get in with someone during bear season this summer who cat hunts too. ya i know i m a little late to post this , this year but just found this site
would actually like to get into going with someone that runs dogs , i love it but dont really have the time or place for a new dog right now
we re looking for a house so dont want to get something going just yet , thought it would be a better idea to tag along with someone if i could to pick up some tips before going out on my own
i know the shooting season ends the 7th but can t you still ru them after that ?
i got 2 cats coming to one of my baits now so hopefully i can catch one in there before the 7 th

You have one of the Best Houndsman and Cat Hunters to be found anywhere up in Northern VT.

Mr. Pete Richardson is the real deal if somewhat as secretive as his quarry. This traits is common to all of the truely good Bobcat Hunters.

Good Luck...remember be all eyes and ears and very little mouth as you learn the game!

pretty sure i have been to his house when i was little
pretty sure my dad and his brothers have hunted with him before
would be great to go on a hunt if he d have me , but i think i m far enough away from him as it would be a trip

Im not sure if you can run them after the 7th or not. As far as I know there is no specification in the law book. That leads me to believe that you can't. With bears the running season is specifically listed in the book but nothunh on cats so I assume that you can't run outside of kill season but if anyone knows the true answer I would like to know. Good Luck in your pursuits, once you start in this game you'll be hooked, there is nothing like seeing a bear in a tree and Im sure a cat is the same, haven't seen one yet but someday if our pups keep trying.

You can still run cats or (coyotes for that matter) till march 15th i beleive it is. 1badboy what town are your from. I live in franklin county (berkshire).

i d be willing to take a drive if someone needs a hunting buddy for a day , as long as its not too far
i work nights and 4 days a week , so i m pretty open with some notice for fri, sat , and sunday
works great for deer hunting , only missed a few days hunting between sept 15 and dec 15 th this year for deer hunting
dont get to sleep much but get to spend alot of time in the woods

both my dad and uncle got cats this weekend
my dad got his on a bait and my uncles beagles chased out his out to him
neither were that big 15-20 pds but man this weekend was the time i guess !
