CA F&G Comission Meeting Feb 3 in Sacramento

Post by Peter Meyer »

The first California Fish and Game Commission meeting will be Feb. 3 10:00 am at the Resources Building Auditorium 1416 9th St. Sacramento. Show up for the public forum and help me push for the legalization of gps collars, raising the season limit on bear, and give the board an earful on the CHC donations to the K9 program in lieu of the HSUS's tainted funds. Hope to see someone there. -Pete

http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/pubnotice/ Then to down load the proposed changes click on: Draft Environmental Document related to Proposed Black Bear Hunting Regulation changes (PDF)

In a quick summory,

1)The DFG is are proposing to change/allow GPS and Treeing switch collars.

2) The DFG is proposing to NOT close the season early and allow it to run its course until the end of December., OR to raise the limit of bears that can be harvested to 2500.

3) The DFG is proposing an expansion to the bears hunting zones

4) The DFG is also proposing to shrink the Dog Closer Zones, so that people can run and excersize our dogs in the Mt's and train our dogs in the Mt's, on the legal game that can be hunted or pursued in the off seasons (grag fox, bobcats, coon, coyotes etc...) Guys this one is a HUGE step forwards for Houndsmen, and every dog owner in the state.

I hope anyone that attends the meeting will use common sense on what they say, and how they say it. IMO this is a BIG step forward for California Bear Hunters and Houndmen, and we need to show our support, and our appreciation to the CHC, and DFG, and ask that the California DFG Commission support the DFG's proposed changes.

Peter

I hope any CHC Board members that you feel you have to give an earfull to is done in private. IMO bitching should be done in private, like at a CHC meeting, But not a DFG Commision Meeting. Just My Opinion.

As I just joined the chc Id like to make a request. I noticed that the proposed gps law is specicially refering to allow gps for the persuit of bear. Why just bear? My guess is that these proposals are specific to the changes within bear hunting and not other mammals and the oppertunity to ask for gps as a whole wouldn be possible because the topic is bear hunting specifically. If this is the case, can somone please bring up this topic in the general forum to request gps being allowed for persuit of all mammals in general.

Hope ive made some sence. Mabye im confused. I tryed to read the proposed changes via dfg website and the leagalese gets me all confused. If I can get the time off to go up there I certainly will volunteer to bring it up myself if necessary although it would probabally be better if somone who speaks dfg language would do it.

I am planning on going also. For those of us that can only go one day it looks like Thursday they will discuss the proposed bear regulations. Can somone put directions on here for those who have never been there, I have been but I'm bad at giving directions, everytime I go I end up parking in a different spot. Surely somone knows the honeyhole.

Hey did anyone but me happen to clue into that little proposal about going to bear zones? The Commission says they do not recommend it YET, like I have said in the past, I have heard the zone proposal from several DFG mucky mucks and now there it is in black and white. Read the reason's for this proposal, its to have more control over the killing in certain bear populations....why? Well here in the county I live in it would be safe to say that over half the kill is from guides and out of state hunters, we never used to have this pressure. BUT INSTEAD OF PROPOSING TO MORE CLOSELY REGULATE THE KILLING DONE BY GUIDES AND OUT OF STATE HUNTERS THEY PROPOSE TO SCREW THE LOCALS. How would that happen? Well the zone (BMU) that I and most of my friends live (live meaning I pay taxes in this county and state and have to put up with CADFG's laws 365 days a year) in would recieve the second least amount of tags out of the zones. Our allowed kill would also be one of the lowest. So I if this proposal gets adopted now or in the future we will have to sit around at home, hoping to draw a bear tag (the same tags that all the out of staters are putting in for) and hope to get some hunting in before the guides and out of staters have killed enough to close the season in our unit...this is bulls%*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its time to do something about this, almost every other state that allows bear hunting has restricitons on the amount guides are allowed to kill and on out of state hunters...are we just going to keep burying our heads in the sand....? If you are worried we will lose support then go and look at donations made to CHC and COHA, see how many donations come from out of state people and how many donations come from people you know guide (legal or not)...we won't lose anything but OUR right to hunt in OUR state if we continue to ignore this :agmnt

Mt Goat,

I spoke with Pete this weekend, and he now understands that CHC was offering to counter the HSUS donation to the K-9 Program provided that the HSUS money was returned to them. All is well internally I think, so we can all join shoulder to shoulder for our common cause.

bigboarstopper,

First, let me say THANK YOU and welcome to CHC! I assure you that joining CHC will be the best $20 you ever spent!

Now, as to the question regarding specifically allowing GPS in the pursuit of bear, note that it is the Department's proposal to rescind the current prohibition of the use of GPS for the pursuit of all mammals, but because of the context of the document being specific to bear, the language addresses bear only.

Hope this helps clear the air.

Riflman, thanks for clearing that up. I Re-read the document from the dfg and then realized that the changes were specific to bear hunting in general. As for gps, this will be a fantastic foot in the door for the remainder of the houndsman who persue other species. The fact that the dfg is considering to potentially loosen the noose around our necks is mind boggling.

As for the humane society, Ive seen there little propoganda video. When their oppertunity to speak or present their case will they be able to use this video in their presentation? I assume they will if they can. If so, I think they will use the video as their main platform, or at least the naration in the video will basically summarize what they will probabally present. In the event they do or not, I think it would be a good idea to prepare a rebuttal for each point they present. Seems like we wouldnt be leaving any point they attempt to make without a responce. I just thought id throw that out in case the idea hasnt been brought up.
