Rigging off snowmobiles

Has anyone perfected a technique for rigging your dogs off the snowmobile or doggie trailer? Our snow is a little too hard to see a track and still way too deep to drive, I'm sure somewhere someone has come up with a creative idea to continue hunting during these time periods? I'd love to see some photos!

ive never tried to rig off snowmobile- it has happened by accident - very rare -

i have had a few dogs i sorta roaded them in front like i would a truck-
sort of a combination of freecasting and roading --

most my sleds built for hauling people ,not dogs- i wouldnt want to torture dogs like that

sled in picture hauled everything in picture except the rabbits , flat groomed trail - looks like a dog sled- weighs a ton, dog box and storage built in- had wide wooden skis covered with plexiglass and steel runners-

off the trail---way too heavy but could haul up to 6 people - 3 standing 3 sitting on a flat groomed trail -very stable
my buddy built it
wood skis eventually rotted away or i would still be using it




you could easily rig a dog off it if u had a cleaner burning snowmobile than mine


this one made from a pickup bedliner, narrowed it up

the back seat is a dog box




lately ive been using half a canoe -
the factory seconds , they come cut in half -
add some skidoo runners so they dont slide sideways and in case u have to drag on dirt

very light-very slipperry - you dont know its behind you if not loaded too heavy =
if i need more room ,just haul two




all these sled are one of a kind custom built from junk , i mean recycled use plastic and cedar to save weight

i think u can still buy a steel fold up sled from cabelas --theres one for sale in town 399

steel drags hard on snow if its warm

if u use steel skis - line them with plastic -- u do need some kind of a steel runner on ice-
use snowmobile skags or make your own

i saw the ideal sled-fire department has it , its a recue sled -looks like a 4 wheeled horse buggy -

4 skis , each with independant suspension- turns like a wagon

now i just need bout 6000 to buy one and 12000 for a sled that could pull it-

Yeah that would be the thing of rigging is getting them out of the exhaust. Love your home builts, we have about 3 plastic bedliners in the yard looks like they might find something else to do. How does having the dog and crate on the back of your snomobile affect driving/steering? And where can someone get those cargo racks for the back over the tunnel? I have looked everywhere for them.

Got to thinking about this. What about some form of a platform that could be built and attached to the hood on the sled, that way the dogs are in front of the exhaust. I a sure a hood rug could be made also if your dog is good at holdin on. Just some thoughts.

How does having the dog and crate on the back of your snomobile affect driving/steering?

i know for a fact that two dogs can tip a parked tundra over , from inside a large crate on flat ground-

if i haul 2 big dogs , i dont like to leave the road or groomed trail - very tippy-

2- 3 beagles or one coonhound size dog in a smaller crate isnt bad

i have only used small snowmobiles -tundra , bravo ,etc

i like that idea-- like a front rack on a 4 wheeler-
