full moon

the moon was almost full last night and the coon wer'nt moving at all. anybody else have trouble geting one going on bright nights?

I went out last night with the full moon and nothing was moving. I find that its almost a waste of time hunting, whether its coons or biggame, when the moon is full!

i live in pretty decent coon hunting, but the full moon usually isnt as good. when time allows i hunt hard between sun up and whenever it starts slowing down. had some good races this morning. one dentree, one on the outside, and a trail that led to a hole next to a old abandoned house. couple other trash races the pups took also. LOL. try hunting right before daylight, you might surprised how much longer the trails are but its neat seeing a coon treed in the daylight. good luck.

full moon last night,and couldn't even start anything.. wonder what it is....

I don't live in a coon paridise but it seems the more moon the better, also seems it's better to hunt the early early morning then right after dark they've had more time to roam about.

The coon hunting here in Vernal Utah is generally always pretty slow. Where we do most of our coon hunting is on a big river bottom in the middle of a desert. My dad hunted coons faithfully every other night for two years straight and kept a journul on how the hunts went. He found that on a no moon or the first quarter of moon the coons seemed to be moving good right after dark. As the moon got fuller the coons would slow down and come out later up until a full moon when it was hard to find anything moving except for trash. As the moon would decrease, the coons became more active towards early morning. At about the last quarter of moon they would be moving alot right before daylight. We have had some awesome coon chases and end up catching the coon two or three hours after daylight. Good Luck Hunting!

In northern california rice country its great on a full moon. On average I will see around 7 coons a night. full moon nights bring it closer to 10. I only chace coons in the rice country in the late winter, early spring. I have to make sure I don't make those high doller duck hunters made at a guy killing duck egg eating machines. Pluss I enjoy my dogs chasing bears over coons. But those little bandits are sure fun when you cant chase bears here

I go on a full moon but never had much luck, I read the barametric pressure now and found it over rules the moon most times, learned it from coyote hunters, plus wathcing the smoke how it works tells me alot about how it will be that night, of course i go anyway then cuss my dogs under my breath all night

I know there are a lot of people out there that know a lot more about it than I do. I have treed coon on full moon nights but it was rare. We usually don't seem to do very well on a bright night. My dad who has passed on and was a coon hunter most of his life use to say that if it was bright enough at night that a coon could see their shadow that not many would be out. I know a lot of people are going to say that is an old wives tale and maybe it is. It seems that everyone has an opinion and it may vary as to what part of the country you are from. Here in southeast Wyoming we catch more coon on the ground than we tree. We have had coon run right past a perfectly good tree and get caught on the ground. Has anyone else experienced this? All I know is that we usually don't have much luck on a full moon. I have never tried hunting early morning, but after reading some of these forums I may give it a try.
