What's in your pack?

Postby Spokerider » Tue Nov 27, 2007 5:59 pm

When your hounds strike, what's in your pack when you hit the trail and join the race?

Ammo
flashlights x 2
firstaid kit for me and the dogs
firestarter and tinder
candles
snack and H20
GPS
rifle
Compass / map
hat, gloves and scarfe
Small amount of dog food
rope / leash
knife
T.P. aka tinder
camera
bino's

Don't own any radios yet.

Wondering, do you carry your receiver and yaggi in your pack or leave in vehicle? Same for the trashbreaker? These things do weigh some.

Don't always carry an extensive pack, but there are a few things i always have and that is:

Flashlight
Fire starter
AA batteries
RADIO
lighter
Leads (if remembered.)

As a rule i say never leave the tracker in the truck. QT 6000 and Yagi. I even made a backpack that can carry it and my rifle. Nothing like vancouver here, though.

You mean the type of pack that you remember to carry with you :?: The only thing I never forgot was my pack of smokes and a lighter! And that wasn't exactly for starting a fire!.. Now that I've "kinda quit" smoking. I'll sure I'll forget everything!

I'm lucky if I remember the Gun, really Lucky if I remember the Gun and the ammo!

In all seriousness my pack has gotten extremely light the last few years.. Radio/GPS unit in one jacket pocket (if I remember) Bottle of water in the other (if I remember), and a pair of Gloves. And even though I don't smoke, I'll still probably carry a lighter in the woods.

I don't use a pack

Postby Emily » Wed Nov 28, 2007 4:08 pm

just stuff my pockets. I try to remember matches and a knife and a dog lead and a compass. Maybe a couple of apples or sandwiches. I have a small keychain LED for emergencies
Anything beyond that is hit or miss, but I do keep backup in the Jeep so if I make it back, I've got what I need. That includes
a hammock and blanket for emergency overnight stays
first aid for me and dogs (vet wrap, various basic pills: antihistamines, aspirin, acepromazine for sedating wounded dogs, styptic powder, superglue for repairing gaping wounds, EMT gel, iodine )
lots of rope for getting dogs and people out of predicaments
some hard candy for me and biscuits for the dog
a complete change of clothes plus extra sox
serious raingear
a couple gallons water (I mostly hunt where there's plenty of clean drinking water, so I just bring a cup if I remember)
I have a folding pistol style Yagi that I strap on if I think I'm going deep, otherwise leave in the truck
Spare leads and collars, bulbs for hunting lights, etc
an ice grapple for rescuing dogs on thin ice

In my pack that I actually carry is normally (and my pack is hot pink) :P

Leashes
Camera
Bottle of Water
TP
Handheld radio

If it is night then an extra flashlight

At the truck
First Aid kit for man or dog
Extra batteries
Extra socks
Pair of slippers (hey, never know when your boots might get wet)
and a GPS that I don't use enough to remember how to use ;)

Mel,
I thought for sure that "mascara" was going to be on your list after reading that your pack is hot pink! lol....

Emily,
How do you find the pistol-grip yaggi for reception? My yaggi is close to 2.5 ft long in the folded position and I'm always snagging it on brush etc when hiking through the west coast rainforest jungle. I was looking at a smaller one but read the reception was poor.
