I am paralzed @ in a wheelchair . I have only been this way for 5 years . I have been running hounds all my life . I have comp. Coon dogs & deer dogs ! I am very hands on in the training & pleasure hunting side . However I use a handler for comp. I am interested in learning bear & lion hunting with dogs but don't know enough to say I am a big game houndsmen . It is my goal to start a assocation for the disabled who love to hear hounds run or that want to bag a elk, bull, bear ,or lion !! Any comments @ feed back would be grately appreciated !!! You can also contact me at 251-404-7754 . Thanks mitch

Hats off to you, Roughstock.

I think that would be an excellent program to put together. My input.. a possible option would be partnering with a current program that offers big game hunts in the western States for hunters with disabilities. Although the challenges of getting to a lion or bear tree may make this more difficult than other big game hunts, I know there are outifitters and houndsmen who would work to make it happen.

If your heart is set on creating your own program and you have the drive to seek sponsorship and fundraising for this.. I believe there are many who would support you both in efforts and funding.

Roughstock,
Her is what happen to me i was 12 years old and broke my hip i was bed ridden for 4 years and in a wheel chair for 4. Well i was always raised around deer hunting and it was in my blood but never got anything in the state of california. Well the dr said i would never walk again and i gained weight i was 406lbs. They wanted to cut my leg off at the hip i refused they said i would not walk again well i worked hard and got up walking amazed the dr. Well i met a couple guys that are real good friends and took me hunting knowing i could not walk far they kept taking me until a bear treed pretty close to the road and i got my first bear a big ol one at that. Then i was hooked and got a fox a bobcat and so on with theses guys. They helped me out alot. We would hunt with this gentleman named boone shockley and to this day still hunt with him. That is how i got hooked on dogs. Well anyways after a while of rehab and such i had gastric bypass and lost the weight got down to 165lbs and that is when i got me a dog. Now that is what i really love doing. I just wish more disabled people can experience of true friends and hunts like that behind some mountain music making hounds in pursuit.

So yes it is a great thing you are trying to do Hats off.

Hey all sorry for not replying to any messages ! I have gotten all your numbers & info written down . My family has been fighting the cold that's been going around . Also if you or anybody you now of that would be willing to teach me some more skills for bear & cat I would appreacate it. I was hurt 5 years ago & was just getting started so I'm a little rusty ! Also if you are a outtfitter or you know of a good outfit that would like to help in my starting of this assocation it would be very helpful . I want to offer a variaty of forums & conditions to be able to hunt . ANY FEED BACK WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECATED !! 8)

Roughstock,
There is an organization that does disable hunts they are called Hell of a hunt. They are out of douglas Wyoming. They have hunts for antalope but they are doing what you want to do with lion and bear hunts. The only thing is you can't run bear with dogs in wyoming. I know there is a big push for the hell of a hunt, they are getting sponserships and TV time. Anyway see if you can find any info on them if not I can try and find some.

Roughstock:You have my utmost respect for what you are trying to do . Not sure I understand your Forums and Conditions aspects though . I do hope you are considering being able to include some of our Senior citizens in that mix .I guess I could qualify for that having had 2 heart attacks and 2 strokes. . I am not wheelchair bound but like many other seniors there are many physical limitations . With me it is NOT about pulling the trigger it is about Participating with friends and family to enjoy the adventure.as best we can. I do support your endeavor and if I can be of asisstence let me know.

I am aware of other organizations that are for that state . The wildlife turkey ferderation offers turkey hunts for the disabled . I want to take it to another level & to allow the hunter to control the scenario & out come of the over all hunt !! It a senior citizen still enjoys handling dogs he can still have is own pack of dogs put not being able to get to the tree he would need the help of a able bodied person to go to the tree for him . But only after he has used his rig dogs or help find the right track to put his dogs on . Then sit back a tell story & just how his dogs are workin . Then when he thinks it sounds right go to the tree for him but us 2-way radios & video so he can be at the truck but with the sounds & he will know what is going on . Then he can watch it on video later . This is just one thing I would like to see happen !!!! 8)
