Video of Big Bad Florida Bobcat Parts 1 & 2
2-10-2010
Hello Folks!
Weather has been intermittently BAD we have had upwards of 4 inches of Rain in the areas we hunt, since the last update. But the Bobcat rut has started and we have been having pretty good luck.
We have had to run two Packs as we have had as many as 7 bitches in heat at one time. So we have run a mostly Male Pack and then a Hot Female Pack.
I will give a more detailed up date in a day or so, but this past Monday we ran one Heck of a Tom Cat with the mostly Male Pack. He could be bigger than the 35+# Tom we caught a couple of weeks ago. He ran for an hour then the Pack bayed him in a Bad Swamp.
I could get close enough for this video, but never close enough to apply the Hickory Whack. We just did not have enough Hound Power to kill this big guy. He almost ate two Pups plumb up who got too close. The old dogs would stand back and bay…I would get there, then the Cat would break and run for another 10 to twenty minutes before baying again. At one of his fight breaks he managed to bite Corky and Sandy sending both to rehab. After doing this for another 2 hours we decided to blow the Hounds off. I just could not get to the Cat!

I hope this video link works so you all can see the size of this Cat. You will also get a feel for the kind of Bad Country the Cat here has to run in. He is still there to run again and next time I hope we have more Dog Power!
Good Running to All!

Agree with everyone else would like to see more videos too. Hey not to be picky but I would like to see your dogs on the move by the look of them it would be some eye pleasing stuff. But then by the look of that stuff your in it might be a little hard to see them moving. It is cool to see new country and good hounds thanks. And right about now that color green looks good too, just white and cold here.

Re: Video of Big Bad Florida Bobcat
Been wondering when you would show us those Clay hunds in action
We all would like to see more, even if it is just video of the countryside with dogs barking off in the distance (hey, I know how hard it is to get good video).

Hey thanks for doing that and posting it. I have always heard this saying "the brush is so thick you cant fall down" But I think this is the first time it actually is!
Man, I dont know how you or the dogs get through that stuff.

Folks,
Glad that you all are enjoying the video. It is hard to shoot when you are on your belly lying in water. I am shooting this with my Nikon L19 not my good Cannon GL 2. My wife would shoot me if she caught me taking the good stuff into this mess!
Here is another clip I shot in Dec. of a 22# Sow. It is tough to hold the light and camera at the same time!

I will try to get some action shots of the Hounds running, crossing a road or something this next week!
We are having some more Bad rain today….just what we need!
Today is Dads 80th Birthday…so I am cooking and getting things ready for a nice supper. We are thankful that he made another one and pray for many more!

Re: Video of Big Bad Florida Bobcat Parts 1 & 2
Folks,
Here is the video clip I shot Monday on a retrieve of another Big Tom. We tracked this Cat over 3.5 miles up three different roads, with the Hounds cold trailing a while, then Dad or I tracking him.
The Hounds finally got the Cat off the road then we had a hell-of-a Race for just over an hour! The Race was in a1500 acre or so Block so at times hearing was difficult.
The first bayup was over 400 yds from the road, however on the way to the Hounds, the Cat slipped away. Then the Race came right to me and I ended up about 275 from the road. Had to break ice and wade in waist deep water to get to the Hammock where the Race ended. There the word THICK doesn’t do the terrain justice!
View My Video
Cat weighed in at 31# and aged as a young adult.
I will have a better update soon, but in 5 weeks we have had 62 Races and all have been successfully terminated, with no escapes. This is an unusually long streak of good luck which will probably end with me telling of it!

got a good shot of adrenalin on that one.
holy cow! 62 divided by 5 = 12.4 cats per week. Man I never even had a dream that big.Dads dogboy wrote:in 5 weeks we have had 62 Races and all have been successfully terminated, with no escapes.

Re: Video of Big Bad Florida Bobcat Parts 1 & 2
Folks,
My wife just called after she read this Post. She informs me that Dad and I left home 6 weeks ago today. She wants to now where in the Hell We were the other week....OOPS!
David that makes the avg. a lot lower. We have hunted all or part of most days when the Rain was not coming down. Most Days (includes hours into the night) we have run Two Cat. However on 4 occasions we have run three, one on each of these outings was that dreaded POP UP, who you would really like to remove from the Bobcat Gene Pool, however the Treedogs where in the truck.Trying to keep two packs hunted down has just about killed me.
We have weighed 18, put 12 in Gopher Holes or Dozier Piles, caught the Hounds off of two due to Hwy's, and treed the rest.
Also I just watched the Video Clip and for some reasons about 12 Sec. did not upload. When I get to some High Speed service I will try to reload it.
