Toyota hunters - check your springs once in a while

I know none of you hound hunters abuse your trucks, and mostly use them to go get groceries and go to church on Sunday and such but seriously, check your rear springs once in a while. My truck was sagging a bit in the back and I got to looking, and BOTH the rear springs were broke (AGAIN). I think dogs and dog boxes and rough terrain will make short order of 'em.

Mine aint stock so I dont worry about it. Have managed to make my motor mounts collapse and break to shocks, one on the passenger and one on the drivers side. .

Haha thats what I have been told. It was quite interesting driving on the first shock I broke, my truck was leaning towards the passenger side the whole time, it was about 4 inches lower then the other side...probably not safe but I made her home. Toyota wanted me to pay $10,000 to get my motor mounts fixed, in other words they wanted to replace the whole frame, ended up getting them welded up nice with vertical gussets and one between the frame for $250! My poor truck, its about to get flatbeded if I can sneak it behind the wifes back and pull some money out of my ass, haha.

Haha yeah I would if I had an older Toyota to customize. Dont think the wife would like a full size dog box bed, haha, although I would! I drive about 75 on them backroads so Ill put that pup to the test! haha jk

Is that a stock leaf pack? Looks like its had an after market "add of leaf" added to it.....thats the worse thing you can do to them, if infact thats what it is........

You are right DD that was an extra aftermarket add-a-leaf that I put in a while ago. You are also right that that was a big mistake I have now realized. After talking to a spring guy, he said those are a bad deal because they are stiffer than stock Toyota springs and actually add more stress to them. The best thing to do is cut down some other Toyota leafs and add them to your existing Toyota leaf pack, that's what I did this time - we'll see how it works.

I got a 93 toyota, im afraid to look under it to close cause it would probably make me to scared to drive it . but the thing runs great . If i ever win the million dollar lottery i just might get it painted !

Yeah I know those leaf springs are off the 1st gen Taco's. I replaced my whole leaf spring setup on my 2nd Gen so I didnt have to deal with that problem. As for the 2005 2nd Gens like myself the motor mounts have collapsed in a lot of them. Several forums with that info. Sucks about your leaf springs catdogs. A buddy of mine just broke his on his 87 I think it was. Breaking them isnt bad at all if you know how to replace them or know where there is a parts truck around.

If you have a spring shop nearby its easier and probably cheaper having them build the leaf pack then going to a salvage yard, buying an extra set of springs then cutting and building the pack yourself. I've went through those same issues with every little pickup I have owned, after every little rig I would buy thats the first thing I would customize.
