Re: garmin astro system
All of this comes down to where you live when you think about it. Do you live in steep rugged country or just some mountains but they are generally rolling and not too steep? If you live in the cascades or the rockies you are probably going to have problems when you get into the steep stuff and they arent going to work for you.
I hunt only in the steep stuff and find that's where the Garmin works best.
Think about it. If you are in steep country the game and dogs generally aren't going over the top at least not around here. So you are going up the drainage or down the drainage along the road system and your dogs are somewhere above you or better yet directly across from you. If there is no road system at all and you are on foot then you will have problems because the dogs will quickly get out to that 3 mile range or so but most places have roads and I have no problem staying below or across from them.
Here's one bear run I saved to google earth.

My hunting partner & I have seen many benifits to having the 220 Vs. old style tracking systems, however we sometimes split up with one of us leaving on foot while the other drives......
Does any one know if you can run 2 receivers while tracking the same set of collars?
What problems may occur?

Used the trusty astro 220 today and it hasn't failed us yet the only thing that could be better was if I could track my buddy. He took off on a bobcat track and I sure could of used a extra collar to track him.

You can track your buddy's collars and he yours, just a matter of programming them in both astro's.Haven't had any trouble doing this.
Problem we are going to have this year is having more than 10 collars between us. Happy huntin'

Re: garmin astro system
Thanks 'Ole Guy, the two systems have worked great.....
Until this past week! We hunted some fairly rough country SW of Marfa, TX. We had some exposure to radios & experienced some reduced range.
Was it due to the radio or deep canyons in relation to sattelite position? I have no idea yet!??
I kicked mine out of the buggy and run it smooth ass over!
'Seems to have busted the LCD only as it beeps when turned on/off.
I guess we'll see how their return/repair policy & system works out!
