For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God - 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV)

Just cheak the ears regularly if they are clean then leave em. Some dogs seem to collect dirt... Plus cheaking ears is good idea incase of mites ect.
In this dry climate its rare to get bad ears but I always cheak just incase. or of I see them shaking alot sometimes they get seeds from grass or other burrs in there.
