my worst day ever

Post by mohawk »

Last Dec. my wife bought me an early X-mas present, her and my oldest son drove for about 20 hours straight to go pick up Cricket. My wife paid 500.00 for a 8 year old walker female that was going to be my new cat dog. The dog was everyyhing and more what Don Johnson (the owner) said she was.
She treed 4 bobs this season for me this season and did a fine job doing it, until last friday,I put her down on another bobcat around 3:45 in the afternoon, she was cold trailing the track for about two hours and I never did hear her jump it, but the treeing switch in her coller was going off. She was in a roadless area which was makeing it difficult for me to get close to her. After about 4-5 hours of her treeing switch going off I decided I was going to have to walk in to find her, by the way I never heard her barking. My oldest son and I found her tracks and started walking, we walked for about an hour through some of the nastyest reprod and blow downs that i have ever walked threw. I kept checking my reciever and could tell that we were getting closer but still couldnt hear anythig, we found her tracks and stayed on them.
After about another 1/2 hour of walking the wosrt happend, we found blood everywhere it looked like a war zone, I couldnt believe what we were seeing. About 15 feet away I found her tracking collar and her name plate collar liyng there on top of the snow, ther must have been 7,8,or 9 coyote tracks all around ther. My son found 4 pieces of bone on the ground and that was it. I never in my life seen anything like this, those coyotes ate everything. I would never have thought coyotes would do something like this. Crickit is gone but she wont be forgotten, I will get my reveng on coyotes.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. Not trying to change the subject ,but I do follow another forum North East Predators in the past 30 days in Maine there has been a horse killed by a pack and a toddler girl being dragged into the woods by a coyote. She was saved only because the family dog interfered with the coyote's intentions .Not sure what causes these things to happen . As I printed on that site: I wish NO HARM or LOSS to anyone BUT until someone in POWER or a BUNNY HUGGER suffers a personal tragedy ,things are NOT likely to change . Coyotes or wolves kill all you can . I have NO use for either.

given your handle, was this in NY? If so, I'd be glad to introduce you to some serious yote hunters... I'd also like to run this in my column for the NY Houndsmen Conservvation Association. please pm me with details.

Condolences on losing your hound this way. There have been other incidents of hounds being chewed pretty badly, but this is the first death by coyote I've heard of around here...

Thanks to those who replied, this happened in Cenrtral Oregon, this last fall, the local sherrif witnessed his austrailian sheperd chasing a coyote across his paster and then watched his dog chase it into the creek bottom and then she came running out of the creek with two coyotes on her tail, fortunaly he was able to drop one right in its tracks and the other one ran off.
I wouldnt wish what happened to my dog even to my worst enemy, but because it was my dog and not some polititions pet nobody of any importance will give a rats ass! But just like the good Lord says " vengence is mine sayith the Lord" I will take my vengence out on every coyote that I see!!!!!!!!!

Wow! That's crazy! Sounds like she was running alone. I use to hunt rabbit with beagles and have lost a couple to coyotes... and lion. Sorry for your loss.

my dogs had a bobcat in a tree and a big male coyote came and picked a fight. fortunatley for me I had more than one dog there. they killed the yote! I would be scared to run a solo hound after that and hearing of your loss.keep your head up and keep killin yotes!
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.
