No disrespect to anyone, but givin all the issues raised on here. This is why I myself would only raise or buy a pup and train it myself.. That way its all on me....

Ditto, the only thing I'll ever bring into my yard is a tit weened pup at best....but the truth is the only pup I'll ever raise and train (or hunt) is one that came from my hounds, then I don't have anybody to blame for the outcome but myself!

I wouldn't call this a "bad deal", and I know both parties involved. I've seen Dixie go since she was a pup. I would say she is as well started a young dog, as I have ever seen. I am the one that told Ryan about the dog when he called me looking for a prospect.

The thing is we are all baffled with her not doing anything. She hit the ground running and has never looked back. I believe that she will be the dog that Ryan is looking for if she gets over whatever has caused this set back. I also think that Ryan might be looking at the price he spent on the dog, rather than what she is... A very well started young dog that should have a bright future, granted he does his part.

The price was high for a reason, she was EXCEPTIONAL here!

Poser explained to Ryan that this dog was not a "Bobcat dog"... just a well started pup with great potential.

I own a littermate brother to her and he is making a dog. If I had the money, she would have never got on the plane!

Poser is honest as the day is long and represented the dog absolutely accurate!

Ryan has decided to keep Dixie and give her some time. I am confident that she will get over this and Ryan will see why he paid so much for her.

Take care.

This type of behavior has got to be one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the hound world.

Things could be worse... He could have bought one of your pups and have NO hope at all!

LMAO!

Take care.

I agree with everyone else on the adjustment period. I personaly spend more time in the beginning getting the dog used to the new environment than anything! And it certainly depends a lot on how the dog is being treated. Heck to a dog it probably seems a lot like being caught behind enemy lines. Your out hunting around, you come back home to rest and eat....Than all a sudden your stuck in a small cage in the belly on a plane. After hours of wierd noises and smells you have never smelt before it gets light. Wierd people are moving you around and let you out and through you into a cage (prison) with dogs you've never met before. Than thrown out in the woods and expected to hunt. Just doesnt make much sense to me. Now i'm not saying he was truely treated that bad because i don't know. But i almost guarentee that that is how the dog felt. Just give the poor dog some time to adjust without expectations. Another thought... emotional damage can effect a dog for life just think about all the war vets that are still suffering today. Just my two cents but caring about the dog too much has always been one of my faults.

It by no means was caused by anything to do with you poser, dont stress it. Just learn from the experience thats all people can do.

I just came in from feeding the dog gunpowder and beating her with a stick, my buddies neighbor said that would help. Seriously I spent alot on a puppy because the two dogs i have been hunting have had a fair chance and aren't making me happy. So I wanted to get something that would be ready to roll next season. I just wanted to up my odds of getting a good one. Dixie was, and hopefully still is a very promising pup.
For Whatever reason ( not enough beating with stick? ) Dixie has had a major setback. Tonight we took a walk around the farm i live on far enough away from the buildings to be reasonably sure we wouldn't get after a barn lion. She didn't handle that well, but she was getting better as my pockets were full of milkbones and dog food. I think at least for the next couple weeks this is what my training will consist of. When she seems happier well walk past the barn to see the cows. But hell if I was a good dog trainer it wouldn't take up so much of my time and i'd probably be married or golf.
I wish this thread wasn't called another bad dog deal because It isn't. I'm not sure what it is. If i can't get along with her this summer I'm gonna tell rockcreek she is the bomb and make me some money.

But seriously guys, you ever think that maybe she is less than impressed by her new adventure? It will take her awhile to get used to her new suroundings and people. She is just a pup. Maybe she was more attached to her previous owner than anyone thought. Ya suppose someone poked at her through the shipping crate to get her to shut up in the cargo room? I bet if you give her some serious one on one time, she will come out of it. With that much natural hunt drive, she can hardly help but.

Go right back to the basics and show the dog a caged trainer alone and see what she does.

I really appreciate all the comments. Thanks for taking the time to offer your opinion on the subject. There is alot of good reading and advice on this.

I didn't mean that this is a bad dog deal between me and Ryan....just wanted to open peoples eyes a little. People said previously that a dog deal is not tricky, well to some maybe not, but this just reassureed my opinion on it. Like previously stated they are not a machine.....so you never really know what will happen.

Probably one of the nicest pups i have ever started "yeah i know that doesn't mean squat" gets sent to pennsylvania and wont ever bark at a trainer....

Ryan and i are good. I asked him to keep me posted and he said he would. I really hope that she comes around and makes a dog for him. Time will tell.......

Take care, jason
I'm thankful for being dumb and slow, then i don't have to over think this stuff.

Best of wishes....

Poser, thanks for showing how complex a dog deal can be. Ryan, a lesser man would have culled her and been whining on here for his money back. This dogs stuff is not something you buy off the shelf at 7-11. It is completely obvious, something happened between Jasons place and your place, it just needs to be figured out. Best of luck to you and I bet it won't take long.

Boy Poser, if the rest of the world handled problems like you and Ryan do (honestly) the world would have a lot less scum bag lawyers and liberals. LOL. I know the deal may be sticky for now but its sure refreshing to see guys work out an issue like men should and be totally open with everyone. I've never even met Poser, hopefully I will someday, but anyone looking for dogs should take note on how this guy handles himself and remember that when its time to buy......
