Iditarod

Post by Arkansas Frog »

The Iditarod is about half over[Cripple and Ruby] lot of them Mushers have kennels raise puppys to tain and sell ,some as high as 50 to 72 dogs, and the funny thing not a Walker in the bunch. If you want to keep up with, Google Iditarod standings.com and it will give you a day by day account.

I sure enjoy the Iditarod. When I was a kid I raced sled dogs for a couple years and loved it...Then, a crazy neighbor came over and poisoned my whole team, I was about 11 at the time. I was devastated and never raced again...Then someone gave me a redbone hound and look where I ended up  LOL

Thoses mushers are some tough freakin folks...and the dogs?! Well, talk about conditioning!

i was working in nome a couple years ago its pretty cool .i wasnt there for the race but watch a lot of training by a loackle team the dogs pull 4wheelers in the summer and sleds in the winter . first time i seen them pulling a honda i was thinking what the f$*^ but a guy told me that they exersizing the dogs. would see him up to 10 miles out of town. and i thought running my dogs 5 to 10 miles a few times a week was getting something done and spending time with them

:D HA .. i wouldnt be so sure about that--ive had inquiries from sleddoggers , at least one from alaska, wanting walkers for sled dogs-- - i have had a few that must have been sled dogs cause they werent good for much else - :D -

seriously,,,i advised them , if they wanted to cross walkers into sled dogs , i thought they should use running walkers -

I don't beleive hounds have anything to offer in a sled dog team whether a purebred or a cross...

Had a friend that did the Iditarod 20 or so years ago. She didn't win, but she did finish the race. She told me that the worst part was that just about everyone starts hallucinating once they are well into the race, and that you really have to have lead dogs with brains because the humans all lose it en route...
