Old Hammer
Bought me a hound dog, just the other day
Bought him off the Internet from a guy named Ray
Old Hammer he’s a good one, I hate to see him go
He’ll catch you a lion in the dirt or in the snow
Better hurry up, you’re runnin’ out of time
You better buy Old Hammer before I change my mind
Bought me a hound dog, just the other day
Bought him off the Internet from a guy named Ray
Old Hammer he’s a good one, you better make it quick
Just got off the phone with a guy named Nick
Old Hammer he’s a good one, he’s track to tree
He’s even caught a few bears for me
Bought me a hound dog, just the other day
Bought him off the Internet from a guy named Ray
Old Hammer he’s a tree dog, he’ll stand on wood
I’m telling you son, this dog is good
Old Hammer he’s a box dog, he’ll sound on track
I just got an offer from a fella named Mack
Bought me a hound dog, just the other day
Bought him off the Internet from a guy named Ray
Old Hammer he’s for sale, you’re still in luck
You can buy Old Hammer for two thousand bucks
Sold the wife’s piano, hawked her wedding ring
I would do anything to hear Old Hammer sing
Bought me a hound dog, just the other day
Bought him off the Internet from a guy named Ray
Old Hammer he’s a good one, I’ll take him to the rim
I can’t believe what I paid for him
Old Hammer he’s a good one, what will people say?
Old Hammer only cost me three weeks pay
Bought me a hound dog, just the other day
Bought him off the Internet from a guy named Ray
Old Hammer he’s a comin’, comin’ to my place
Can’t wait to put Old Hammer in a lion race
Took him to the mountain in the new fallen snow
Put him on a lion track and Old Hammer wouldn’t go
Bought me a hound dog, just the other day
Bought him off the Internet from a guy named Ray
From the stories that he told me, I could write a book
I should have known right then
Old Ray was a crook
FOR SALE: Old Hammer – he’s a good one
A poem written by (aka)sourdough 3/20/2010
Enjoy

Re: Old Hammer
Awesome Amigo!
Reminds of s story twas a little redbone hound
Bought from hippy lived on the edge of our town
Said she was cold nosed and could drive a good track
Tops on the locate and never look back
I brought out the pesos tho times was right tuff
I reckoned this hippy knew most of this stuff
I was hide hunting hard and needed an ace
And this twist wire tight redbone would work at my place.
First track that we hit was running and hot
But little Dolly broke for the front and not in a trot
Old Sparky a plott was trying to pass
But lightfooted Dolly let him smell her red ass
Down thru the thickets and out on the plain
Around in the rocks and back over again
For sure a sow cat with wind and that was for sure
For the hounds tongues were hanging down past their ears
Back up the mountain the baying did go
And me spurring Molly for all she could tow
Then everything quit and the barking all stopped
Something was different up there near the top
I listened for Sparky , Lead or old Blue
But nary a sound came that I knew
But then a bawl so forlorn it deep touched my soul
Rolled down the mountain with tenoring roll
Little Dolly did locate and sent down the alert
To tell of the treasure she had smelled in the dirt
With labored breathing on that schene we arrived
All looking up to see tawny hide
But there was no cougar no lion in the tree
No wiley bobcat nor coon did we see
Only the redbone for which I'd paid cash
Had led me direct to her past owner's stash.

Re: Old Hammer
Mike and Sourdough I believe you boys ought to pair up and start a book of stories and poems about hounds and houndsmen ! Enjoyed them both, and by the way Mike your cat training style is top notch. Thanks for saving this newcomer catman from a lot of his own trial and error. Dogs are coming along nicely thanks in great part to you and your words of wisdom! Keep it up - Enjoy all your posts.
Thanks! Grizz
