Re: Went out to day.........(more pics)
Well, it has been a while since I have looked at this thread. I was one who asked for some pics of the dogs in action. I was hoping for some pictures of the dogs working on a tree, but did not realize how few trees there are where radar hunts. I also was hoping that radar would have had the common sense to say "I don't have any good dog pictures to post" and left it at that.
As much as the pictures do not bother me personally, I am sure they bother someone else, who is associated with a group who has a lot more money and organization than we do. I didn't worry about it, complimented him on the dogs and left it at that.
However, I do feel that we as houndspeople need to be very careful about what we post on the internet. Any picture can be used against us, even when we do not intend so.
I think that a person needs to know where to draw the line. Tasteful photos of the dogs working a tree doing what they were bred to do, trailing, or an animal in the tree, or even a picture of dead animals with no dogs hanging off of them to ME is tasteful, and what I think will keep us out of hot water. Putting pictures of dogs fighting animals, videos of dogs fighting animals, excessive blood, etc, will cause a bad image in the non hunting public if it ever does come to a statewide vote anywhere.
Later,
Marcial

The more people open their mouths (so to speak), the more there is to respond to. I honestly think it is a waste of time, because no one is likely to separate themselves from their opinion long enough to understand the premise of my concern much less concede to it, but I had to respond to a few comments...
Cobalt,
Actually, radar wrote, “Finally Had a tree, we put to nice ones up in the same tree.21 and 22lbs. The coons climbed way up in the tree. The last coon hung up in a fork and I had to climb about 40 feet up to get'em out.” This indicates that even when the coons climbed a tree, they were killed...both of them.
This is not about attacking radar. This is about offering a word of caution regarding the potential, if not likely, ramifications of his decisions.
So? What's your point? Unless I am mistaken, this is not a popularity contest. Even if more people are on radar's "side," it wouldn't lend any less credibility to the assertion that killing all of the coon and/or positing pictures of so many dead coon can be used by the anti's to develop a very compelling marketing opportunity that furthers their agenda.
grouse,
This simply is not true. You can find regional and micro-habitat decimation of the coon population today, and there are certainly numerous examples in our past of this situation...ask the old timers how many coon were around during the Great Depression, World War II, or the fur boom of the Davy Crockett TV days or 1970's.
So what if it is a recurring theme? Does that make it any less true?
You are not in California, and therefore, entirely unaware of who does what in this state, so I will give you a pass this time. I'd be careful of the assumptions you make in the future, however.
Arkansas frog,
Tom A,
Yeah, pal. You caught me.
What you are referring to is very true about coyotes, but not necessarily so about coon. While coon are mesopredators like coyotes, they do not respond to aggressive harvest the same way that coyotes do in terms of litter size, offspring recruitment, etc.
It's pretty pathetic that you do not or cannot grasp on of the fundamental aspects of houndhunting--that being the catch-and-release aspect unique to our sport alone. It is to be celebrated rather than confused with the preservationist perspective of the anti's.
Cobalt,
Since the only action was ground action, that's what he posted.

personally I don't think he's harvested enough coons to warrant an attack on him.

And I think there are a lot more people on radar's side than not, but I could be wrong.

grouse,
these guys that are on here bitching apparently don,t know shit about coon and coonhunting! first of all by thinning the population down it makes for a heathier populaton . you will never wipe out the coon in an area. disease does that caused by overpopulation.

furthermore some of these internet loudmouths on here always bring up about the anti,s useing the pictures for there bullshit.
So what if it is a recurring theme? Does that make it any less true?
if they would spend more time e- mailing and calling there elected officials to bitch about there hunting rights being taken from them instead of bitching about the way their brother houndsman choose to hunt it would be more productive.

Arkansas frog,
There is a steady and reliable supply of stupid comments on this forum, but this one just may be the worst yet.Az Beagle that coon you seen in Richmond was going to Churchs Chicken, them coons love Church's Chicken.
Tom A,
Dont let em' get you down Rader they are just jelous and need to hunt better habitat or get better dogs.
Yeah, pal. You caught me.
In my trapping experince if you start taking predators, the remaining ones respond by having more offspring thus increasing the population. Thats what makes the coyote so succsesfull.

If they dont like coon hunting let em go coon "WATCHING" but dont tell you or me what to do. Thats no better than what the antis are doing.

How many millionaires can you count that had hounds and hunts, how many country singer,Hollywood stars that are millionaires that donate to the prevention of cruelty?, add them up.[big tax write off].
before Radar is 50 he probably won't even be allowed to own a hunting dog, like Pitt's in town.Calif has about lost it all.
why trap my friend 2008 -9 only sold 35% of his coons[out 400] this year only sold 25 % out of 200. all that fur is laying in Can. not sold and he is paying storage on it.that is dumb to trap.
sorry TomA you didn't like my comment about Richmond coons different type.
if you can't see what is coming you are blind. politicians go with the money.

typical californian attitude, you have something that you like, so i dont like it
thats bullshit, and part of the reason your state is such a shithole, and not toe mention everyone trying to push their agenda on everyone else.. the people of california are just plain, for lack of a better term, SCARED
scared someone might get offended, something might get hurt, always findin something to worry about and cry over
let the man post his pictures and if you dont like it, shut the hell up already, we dont come on here to listen to people cry and whine cause they dont like a guys way of doing something, if you disagree, fine...but leave it at that..and shut up all ready, jesus!
its a damn shame, from what i hear, it used to be a great place, but i only spent the first 14 years of my life there

Re: Went out to day.........(more pics)
Rifleman, you must have had a long easter weekend to think up all this stuff.or maybe in a partial diabetic coma from eating to much candy . Hope it did'nt give you a headache ! First of all I will only be responding to your comments on me . I AM NO LYER ! I have been coonhunting the majority of my life , not saying that i'm a no it all, but i have enough experience that i think i know what i am talking about . Back in the heyday when coon brought good money there were at least 8 groups of different hunters who hunted the same area's , they shot everything they treed. Did they wipe out the coon ? NO ! I could go there on any given night and run coon , and still run them today . Your such a genius about the reginal and micro habitat decimation of the coon give some examples of some area's where this took place so i can research them myself . Your calling me a LYER prove it Einstein ! No it don't make it less true about the anti's useing pictures of dead animals and animals being killed but guess what the majority of the guy's on here i don't think it bothers if it does maybe you should watch Oprah instead of getting on this websight . And last but not least THANK GOD I'M NOT IN CALIFORNIA!! Apparently your not aware who does what there or you would'nt be makeing such pussy type statements .Your gonna give me a pass ? I should be carefull about my assumptions in the future ? Sounds like a threat to me !So i say GAME ON ! Bring it on tough guy ! Like i said before if you would write your elected officials and bitch to them about your hunting privileges being taken away instead of bitching about the way a guy hunts you would be better off . I think NCK and Riflman must be exteremely righteous individuals and I appreciate that they are looking out for the betterment of coon hunting in Ca. I'm sure they've never done anything illegal or immoral in the training of their dogs and have never harvested over 30 raccoons in any given year and I'm sure when any questionable/debatable photos come up on this site, they are the first to "offer a word of caution" as I'm sure they have cautioned Redwood Coonhounds as she has similarly questionable material in her gallery and it is not an attack on radar from a debate on another post. So sleep well and know that never in any part of your postings on radars thread, you would be guilty of any hipocracy. I commend you.
