How the FU** are we supposed to save the hounds

I would like to know who set's the seasons and who make's the game law's in your state . Is it done by the game commission ? In the state of pa our seasons and regulations are set by the game commission , they decide because of biologist the seasons guota's ect.. They have opened up snareing season and we even have a bobcat season now. They have meetings with the sportsman clubs to get there input . So just wondering if game management in your state is done on a scientific basis by people who realize the need for proper game management, ( because we know that overpopulations of certain animals can actually be more detrimental to the species) or is it done by people who show that they love the animal more then the next guy ?

Glad to see several who are willing to stand up and draw a line in the sand with some of these ridiculous videos. Most of these videos are posted by young kids that need to show their brass and bravado on the web.

I have wondered how many of these type of videos have been posted by extreme anti hunting groups just to give us a black eye. I would not be one bit surprise to find out they "sacrificed one to save many".

None the less it's a big black eye.

That happens alot in the UK and Ireland. I know a guy that raises Lurchers in Ireland and right now they are fighting for thier lives on keeping stag hunting. The anti's have come in and sabotaged them posing as hunters, filmed different incidences and then edited it to their liking to make the houndsmen and hounds look like blood thirsty villans. Anything the can they will do to prove their pupose. Not saying all the youtube videos are done by anti's, but houndsmen that post them are giving them ammunition. It is a sad an unfortunate fact that we will always be fighting this battle.

My question to all of you that don't think posting video on the web hurts anything:

What purpose does posting a video of dogs catching, holding and killing serve us as hunters?

By putting anything out there for the general public to use against us is just adding fuel to there fire, there are all kind of things that are not socially acceptable for the mass public, if you go to any food processing plan and see how our food is made from chickens to cheese it would turn the stomach of most any body, the facts are, we hunt, kill and eat what we hunt but that doesn't mean everybody needs see how it's done, I would love it if we could just tell the anti's shut-up and mind there own bussiness but this is not the way things work today

This is the sht that pisses me off is the guy who thinks shooting a game animal out to his dogs and doesn't humanely kill that animal ans then allows his dog to destroy the animal. I have know use for you. You are as blood thirsty as the anti's say you are. You are no better than they are. Every animal I shoot I do my damnedest to make shure that that animal is killed as fast as possible. And by doing this I don't believe that my hounds have been effected by any means. I have know clue what the hell you are talking about Grouse. Do you mean our game laws are screwed up because we DON"T allow hounds to grossly kill a game animal on the ground? Or do you think that our law should make it illegal to allow a hound to kill a game animal? What the hell are you talking about what does the game commision have to do with hunters letting their hounds kill the game inhumanely and video taping it so the whole voting public can see. And when I am talking about fighting for our rights as houndsman it's not in Washington State that I'm worried about it's in the whole United States. None of these videos are coming out of Washington State they are mostly coming out of the south where the guys feel that hunting is so ingraved in their society that it can't be taken away, and I beleive that it can't be taken away down there. But what they are doing effects every houndsman in the US. Here in Washington we are starting to gain trust in our DFW but hey maybe I could ask them if it would be alright if I just kick a coon out of the tree and let my dog kill it, you know since the population of coons is thriving in WA.

My point is if you are scared of losing you hound hunting privleges talk to someone who can do something about it ,like the group (still don't know who that is ) who determines your hunting regulations , possibly even your state rep . You want an answer as to who sets game laws in each state and the country:For game animals besides waterfowl and migratory birds it is the state fish and wildlife agency. For migratory birds it is the USFWS Dept of the Interior. Can you describe what the process is in your state for having a game law put into place?

For Indiana supposing that it is a recommendation coming form the public:

1.The DNR announces that it will take proposals for petition of rule changes/additions
2.Citizens proposal
3. DNR acceptance of the proposal
4. Formal petition
5. Natural Resources Advisory Council hearing to accept petition
6. DNR writes preliminary rule
7. Natural Resources Commission approves the rule for preliminary adoption
8. DNR posts rule for public comment
9. DNR writes summary of public comment
10. DNR send report and rule back to NRC for final adoption
11. DNR director approval
12. Rule posted in Public Register

Now that I have answered your question and am qualified to speak, posting graphic videos that show only a bunch of morons wading into a hog caught by a bunch of dogs and stabbing it with a knife and then cheering and yelling "F*%$! YEah!" is not appropriate video to show. Most of these videos are posted by younger hunters who are dedicated to hunting and want hunting to continue and are very concerned with the future of our sport but lack the life experience and common sense to realize the damage they are doing.

I see it like this; you ever seen those plastic bull nuts that some pinheads hang off of the hitches of their pickups? It is supposed to signify that the guy driving has a big set. The very fact that the guy has to tell some one or try to convince anyone that he has a big set is the epitomy of stupidity, low self esteem and lack of confidence. The only nuts he has are the one's hanging from the bumper.

I know I hunt, I know I got dog power, I know I got what it takes and don't need to post a graphic video on the web so a bunch of pubic hair counting kids can tell me how cool I am.

By the way talking to people about game laws don't get them changed.Organizing and Investing yourself in the the resource management of your state, building credibility and getting plugged in is what gets stuff done.

Grouse, or any one else for that matter that wants to know. Who is setting our game laws in this country? It is the people at the ballot box. So, my question to you is. What does it take to get something on the ballot in your State? And if some hunting issue was up for vote in your state could the sportsman in your state match dollar for dollar the air time on TV and radio that the anti- hunting crowd has? Now, these are not the hard core anti’s in your state putting up the money to portray the sport that I love with a passion in a terrible light, this is a world wide campaign and they use pictures that are not even from your part of the country to make it look as if this is the norm. DO YOU WANT THESE STUPID VIDIEO’S TO BE AIRED ON YOUTUBE? DO YOU WANT THEM TO BE AIRED ON EVERY LOCOL CHANNEL IN YOUR STATE 24/7? There is not one sane person on this planet that could comprehend the mentality of those that took a role in the making of the videos. I for one do not like to be stereo typed with those that put stupid crap like that on this site or any other for that matter. I can’t defend it, can you? All I can do is speak out against it to my fellow hunters, like it or not I am right! This sport for me is about my canine companions doing what they were bred to do, I check my ego out at the door before I leave my house. Do I take pictures? Yes, but there is not one picture I have taken that I would be afraid to have show up on the front page of any news paper in this country.
