surprise while coonhunting

Post by david72 »

Thurs night i loaded up 3 of my young english hounds to do a little coonhunting. I went about 1/2 a mile from my house down in a river bottom behind a golf course it was around 11:00 when i started the dogs were hunting good but not finding anything to run after about a mile we came to the end of a hollow that runs up into the golf course a couple of hundred yards Roxy the oldest dog i had with me struck and the other 2 pups went to her she was not running the track right to be a coon her bark didnt sound right then crocket started bawling really hard they located and started treeing I started in to them this hollow is really steep and has a creek in the bottom as i was going to them my light shined up in the tree I saw an eye shining but something didnt seem right it looked like it kept moving from one side of the limb to the other as i got in to them imagine my surprise when i shined a big black bear in the tree of course i didnt bring my camera i could have kicked myself and of course i was by myself Then like a fool I didnt catch the dogs as i was petting them up and wishing i had a camera because no one is going to believe this. the bear decided that it was time to leave and down the tree he came. I did manage to grab crocket before he got to the ground but roxy and breezy were pulling hair out of his backside when he hit the ground they ran him for a while then I drove around and caught roxy in the road I got breezy back at 8:00 this morn coming back Iam pretty proud of them roxy is 20 mos and breezy is 8 mos old this is their first bear . Later on today i got to thinking what a scene it would be if some of those golfers in there little carts came around on that little trail and saw mr bear I never dreamed in a million years Iwould see a bear in a place like this. I bet I will have my camera from now on

Thats a great story. There has been many a night I've coon hunted with buddies when we have talked about how cool it would be to walk into a coon tree and find a bear! Well done!
