How the FU** are we supposed to save the hounds
Re: How the FU** are we supposed to save the hounds
Sourdough, in the state of pa our game laws are determined by the pa game commission ,they have biologist who determine: to use this for an example ,now we have a good subtainable population of bobcats we now can have a bobcat season . We now have an overwhelming amount of turkeys,so now we can harvest 2 spring gobblers . They don't put our game laws on the ballot box in pa . And being we live in the u.s these people are going to show that type of garbage on youtube . My point is we have to go through the proper channels to help fight the anti's . We are not gonna change anything if our laws are being made by people who do not use sound game management practices . I won't get in no pissing match with you because you are right . And again i do not condone those video's at all .

Grouse you just don't get it !
It's not the laws, not the law makers or law enforcers that is the problem, when the anti's go to the ballot box that is where we have no control of our hunting rights, once it go's to the ballot box, the California the Wild life committee who make the laws and Dept. of Fish and game who enforce the laws have know power to manage the game animals.
We found this out when we lost the Mountain Lion hunting once that happened the dept of fish and game is now only allowed to issue depredation permits other then that they cannot manage them at all.
So all those BS vidios just fuel there fire!

Grouse,
Most if not all states have a game commission that adopt rules and set limits as well as seasons. Ultimately what happen in your state when it comes game laws is up to the people, they can be change by public referendum unless your state has a law in place to stop any game laws from being placed on the general ballot. It even goes further than that state legislators can also make law with out public input and they do. What does it take to place an issue on the ballot in PA because if it only takes a few 100,000 signatures on a petition then no hunting is safe from the anti attacks regardless of sound wildlife management practices. So it starts with us if we see someone doing something that is not right then we need to take a stand and rebuke those actions not turn a blind eye to it. A picture says a thousand words and they last for ever, the antis have plenty in their war chest and drag them out to do nothing less than swaying public opinion. It is hard to educate the non-hunting public when these types of pictures are etched in their mind. I think that most that have made a comment on this thread are all on the same page I just think we need to be more proactive when it comes to our sport and heritage.

Sourdough you are very wise and i agree 100% with what you are saying. Do you also think that by contacting government officials about such problems we might be concerned with helps ?

Hey Dale , maybe i came across the wrong way ,if i did i apologize , i was trying to make the point that if we are preaching to the choir it does our cause no good .If you talk to someone who can actually change things, maybe your lawmakers it would be more productive . I still like to see pictures of hounds and the game they get ,but no where in my statements did i say i agreed with the guy who puts distasteful video's on the web .

You know what would cure our problems?
Make the right to hunt a part of the second ammendment...

I think hunting was 1/2 of the reason for the second ammendment in the first place.
It just wasn't spelled out because it was such a big part of everyday life back then.
Hunting was and is taken for granted.

Grouse it's all good
It's just that I have heard the argument so many times before about the Law makers and Law enforcement having all the power, but when it comes to the anti's they just go strait to the ballot and go around sound management practices and make a emotional issue.

Re: How the FU** are we supposed to save the hounds
Amen Sourdough, this is what I'm getting at. I'm not trying to save the hounds in Wa. from the anti's per-say. I'm talking about our fight for our rights as hounsmen world wide. What happens in England has an effect on us here in the US. People will vote and display an opinion on anything that is on there ballot. And if anyone wants to find out about our sport they don't have to look far. Just google it.........

Good dialogue!
To prove cat's statement;
Right now in Indiana coyote hunters are fighting a battle against anti's who want to close their training/field trial pens. They are using videos from you tube as ammo. The videos show graphic kills by dogs and claim that the dogs are slaves, the coyotes are are humanized etc. It doesn't matter that a lot of it came from other states. They have still turned the issue upside down and are really making a stir.

Hey Doogie glad to see you back on here , the post you are talking about i think gives the anti's more ammo then showing the subject which we have been talking about on here . I kept saying that i don't condon those videos which showed animals which are legal to hunt being tore up by hounds . But somehow i was the one who was being villainized . I think everyone should look at the post which doogies talking about and see what some of you on here which were giveing me flak wrote , including the original author of this post .

Sure is easy to see who lives in wolf country and who doesn't. If this problem isn't taken care of, there will be no future hound hunting anyway. F--- the antis and F--- the wolves!!!!!!!!! The antis are going make up there own ammo anyway, whether we give it to them or not.
