? about leaving bobcat in tree and running him later.

Post by Rigrat »

We caught a nice little bobcat and thought we would leave the tree and come back in 30 min and run him again after he came down. The problem we had was the cat had came down alright but the dogs could not trail the cat out of the area. These dogs had no problem rigging trailing, jumping, and treeing the cat the first time but didnt do anything with it once it came out.Has anyone had this happen or any ideas what could cause this. Thanks JWS

Not unusual!

We have had em punched out of trees or cut out of Hollow logs several times over the years, and never get another BARK.

We have had them bayed and have the Cat squirt out from under the Briars and never get another Bark.

In our Case it was SORRY Hounds other Cat Hunters that have this occur just have Bad Luck!

This is why Mr. Ben Hardaway calls them "Witches" they can just disappear!

I believe what could have happened is the cat came down and walked off, when they are just walking or sneaking off they don't hardly leave any scent for the dogs to follow.
Ignorance and not getting involved is the biggest enemy to a Houndsmen!

if he went out like he went in could the dogs consider that to be a covered track with all the dog scent around?

A man is not very smart that can,t find his wife 2 jobs.
And any wife should be able to support her man and a pack of hounds.

Never shock your dog off bad game

Some times I have done this if I didn,t have to many dogs.
After u tree, put dogs on a leash & go back from the tree as far as u can & still see the cat. Keep dogs quite.
In about 15 or 20 min cat will come sneaking down.
Don,t work to good at night, can,t see the cat.
