Hunt clubs in Or/Cal
Some friends and I are looking to join a hound club in southern oregon or in northern Cali. We bear hunt in cal. and thought it would be good to join one of your clubs since we reap the benifits of your state. I have a ukc and soon to be akc registers bluetick bitch that I am wanting to do some competition hunting. She is only 4mo but I would love to get some info so I can get her into it as soon as I can. I heard that there is a hound event in northern cali. comming up and was hoping someone would have some info.

Bluesman ~ You for sure should join California Houndsmen for Conservation (CHC) since we're the one's that are fighting to keep hunting alive here in CA.
You can go to our website www.californiahoundsmen.com and go to the join section and fill out the membership form and mail it to me with the amount specified. My address is right there on the form.
Be sure to fill it out entirely with all pertinent information.
I'll be looking for it.
The club in CA that holds the UKC events you're asking about would be Nor-Cal Treehound Association. They're held down in the Oroville area.
Contact Tiny or Chawn Santana -530-693-0706
Maybe you can make it down to some events.
Take it easy!

Re: Hunt clubs in Or/Cal
Irv, I was checking out your website and it looks like you guys are on the ball! I did come across something that I was not sure about.
"CHC and its affiliates have successfully lobbied to defeat efforts to ban bear and bobcat hunting (SB67 and AB342) and dove hunting (AB1190) in California, bear hunting with dogs in Maine (LD628), and efforts to mandate the surgical sterilzation of hunting dogs (AB1634) in California."
Are you saying you want to mandate all hunting dogs be "fixed", if so how do you Keep the bloodlines going and encourage safe, smart, and responsible breeding for future hounds?

As lippy said as well as yourself figured out when not in the rush, We've been successful thus far in stopping this kind of aggression.
Although Wayne Pacelle and the H$U$ crowd has promised to bring about a Stat Ballot Initiative to ban Bear Hunting with Dogs if the F&G dept allows the use of the GPS collars in CA.
"Because it takes away the fair chase" they say.
We'll have to begin gearing up to defend ourselves if this comes to fruition.
That's how they lost their Lion hunting here before I moved here, by a statewide ballot initiative.
WE NEED TO START BUIDLING OUR SPVF(Sportsman's Political Victory Fund) FUND NOW!!
Take it easy!

I know all of us in oregon will do all we can to help fight it with you! As you all know, we let ourselfs down with measure 18. Thought there would be no way it could pass, and it did! If the nuber of sportsmen in the state of oregon that did not vote on the measure would have voted the way thay said they would have, we would still be hunting at home. Once the tree hugging, bunny cudling liberals have the choke collar around your neck, you better belive that they wont stop until they have cut off the last breath of the true sportsman. Fight Hard and dont let it happen to cali to!

Sounds like you ended up with one of those female blueticks we sold last December. I am originally from central CA. My dad used to bear hunt with hounds on horseback around the Stanislaus River canyon. That would have been around 1950-1960. I spent most of my off time in the Sierras when I was a kid.
I'm in Oregon now, but I want to come down to CA for bear hunting sometime soon. I wouldn't mind joining CHC. I have been a member of organizations in other states from time to time.
