Piglet,
Excelent Post!
Great advise for anyone!
Only thing Dad would add is for the Hunter to identify his purpose (ie: kill the game for Fur or deprdations or doing it for the listening pleasure of the Hound work, etc) and recognize the kind of Country that he will be hunting (Snow, Dry Ground, Big Timber, Thick wet, South TX. Then get the Kind of Hounds to suit that type of Hunting.
Not all Hound Types are suited for every Country and Purpose.
Please keep your insight coming as we can all learn. After 50+ years Dad is still learning...we ran a Cat 2:05 hrs Wed night and Dad bet me that it was a little Sow Cat who would not weigh 12 lbs. It turned out to be the Biggest Tome hes has caught to date here in Florida...over 35 lbs (scales won't weigh higher but he is not much over the 35 lbs)
Good Running to All!
