The guy has some nerve shooting dogs when he has loose dogs.

How good of an eye does he keep on his loose dogs? It would be real sad if something happened.

Come on guys...

... I didn't mean shoot em. I meant paint a pink bullseye on them or something.

After reading the Valencia county laws, modeled on Albuquerque's I imagine, it looks like I'm eligible for a $300 fine and a complimentary misdemeaner, if I even mention the dog to a local official. Found out a bunch of other interesting stuff I never knew also.
So, I complained to crimestoppers about the gunfire adjacent to our houses and the school. Not much else available to me.
This has been educational (in the painfull sense). Now that I am better informed I think I'll be making some efforts to move me and mine out of here. I think I'll be taking my tax revenues, household spending, skills and education elsewhere.
Any recommendations on hound friendly (ie tolerant) communities or states?

Boy it would be a shame if a box of roofing nails happend to fall in this guy's driveway.
I don't know about your country, but round these parts people aren't shooting anyone's dog. Back in the 80s a guy shot about 4 yote hounds one day while running. People still associate his grand kids as no-good dog killers.
Some city hunyuck property owner will usually threaten to do it but they usually changes their tune when they get an earful. IF you want to fire up a hound guy, just tell him you're going to shoot his dog. Most times the dogs aren't on their property anyway.

You could take the guy to court civilly over the value of the dog. You would have to show that he shot the dog without cause. Just being on his property is not reason enough, but its pretty easy for him to make up a reason if he has livestock or cats ect.
If he shot within 150 yards of an occupied dwelling w/o permission of the landowners he would be guilty of negligent use of a deadly weapon.
My advise would be do something. Dont just let him get away with it. Even if you lose in court you can be a pain in his ass so he might think twice in the future

I got out google earth, drew a circle and counted the houses within 150 yards then filed a report about the chronic ongoing negligent gunfire. Complained about the proximity to the school and at least 8 houses in the circle with families that have children.
I'll see what happens next. I suspect he'll damn himself more effectively with his story, than I could making accusations.
After that I went and gave my number to my other neighbors and asked them if my dogs ever get loose to call me. Offered a reward, etc. These folks that moved in diagonally across from me are an assisted living group home for developmentally disabled adults run by the Dept of Health. They walk in the evenings and the "kids" get a kick out of the hounds. So I got more eyes with pure hearts looking out around the neighborhood now.
Oddly enough, I work with the guy that grew up and owns the house next door to the shooter. I imagine every established family in the neigborhood is fully informed by the grapevine by now. At least, that might explain the hairy eyeball I got as the shooters wife drove by my driveway this morning.
