The Black weighed more without his guts than you guess him on the high end. He didn't compare in anyway to the chocolate, in body size, length, or skull size. I honestly don't know what either squared, and for some strange reason it doesn't bother me a bit. The black was done in a 3/4 mount, and the chocolate will be too. I'll have to wait for one big enough to rug.

There are some big ole boys in Idaho. In the past years I have caught some of those 500 lb. bear. I have even caught one that was 650 lb. Now I know all you expert Idaho hunters are going to call bull, but the facts are the facts. This is how I remember the 650 lb. bear. He jumped out of a tree and a pack of Plotts took hold. I was by myself and could not pull those bear dogs off. I drug bear, dogs and gear off the mountain. When I got home, those darn Plotts still had hold of that bear. I weighed the bear and dogs. Yep 650 lbs. I would place a bet none of these Blk & Tan/Walker dogs on this post are capable of that.
Nice bear Onalimb, it takes real dogs to catch real bear!

One of my buddies had a lion hunter in from California several years back and he brought along a hunting buddy who runs hounds on bears out there. I didn't go hunting with those guys any but did go have a cup of coffee with them one day. The bear hunter told a story about catching a BIG BEAR once out there.....
It seems that ol' brute wouldn't tree for their hounds so they took an old bath tub out in the woods and nearly filled it with wine. Next day that old bear was laying there drunk and that damn big bear was pretty easy to catch ha......
I never ask him what color hounds they were using but it would have been fun to hear what breed of dogs it takes to have to have an edge like that.........

Those are beer dogs Ike.
After reading your story it brought back some memories. Along time a go I found a bear in one of those barrel traps the Fish & Game set out. Well you can fill in the blank parts of the story, come to think about it I have blank spots in the story. Anyway the short version is I made a small fire and burnt some, hmmmmmmm you no what I mean. Well this bear came out of that barrel with a big smile of his face. After that day the Fish and Game always got reports of a bear hanging out where Sheet Rockers were working!
