I've hunted Idaho my whole life and of course the 2 biggest bears I've seen dead on the ground we had to skin and pack out. I believe both of these bears where close to and maybe 500 pounders killed 13 years apart. I have wieghed 3 other big ass bears all gutted but other wise whole they where 398 411 and 467 the first 2 wouldn't have had the guts to be 500 but the third one was for sure it had 3 legs and a 20-7/8 head but I've treed them, called them in, spot and stocked them for 17 years and idaho just doesn't have the correct food and long enough time out of hibernation to make those wieghts. The biggest bears in this state are usually the closest to towns and ranchs the back country bears are genrally small.

Wow that is a nice 300 lb bear Big Track. Why would you need so many dogs? The one plott you own would have done the job just fine. I hear he is nice bear dog.

Onalimb, now that is a real Idaho bear!

Catch, I caught him up here in the Panhandle, you know, where they don't hibernate and get to eat 12 months out of the year.
I kinda wonder what he would have weighed in the fall? Guess there are no 600 pounders either.

Those are nice big Idaho bears but none of them are going to touch that magical 500lb mark. The second one in the picture has a monster head but it still isn't a true 500lber.

So tell us, what do you think they weighed?
We got the black out field dressed, and did weigh him, and he was a fall bear. The chocolate was taken in May, and had to come out in pieces, but dwarfed the black in every respect.

Now Onalimb, take a deep breath and count to five. You know as well as I do that not many Blk & Tans every see a big bear, or a big bear ever gets to see a Blk & Tan??? Whatever the case may be, that is a nice 500Lb bear!!
