Yea Pete, those new bark collars that tri-tronics puts out is pretty good but they don't have rechargeable batteries. The batteries they do have, however, seem to last a long time as the unit turns itself off when the dog is not moving. I have a six collar system of trash collars that came from tri-tronics and if necessary they'll all get one. However, I've been cheap and only own two of those bark collars but have been gonna have them send me a couple more when I get off my lazy butt.....

Living in town, I've just not been able to put up with a hound that won't shut either. When they are pups, I've tied each one of them close to the back door and when they bark i just throw a bucket of water on them. So they all grew up understanding that shut up followed by a bucket of water over their heads meant shut-up. And it has worked pretty well. But the collars pretty much shuts them up and is as useful as those trash collars that tri-tronics puts out..........

I used to live right in town too Ike.Had houses within 30 ft of my dogs.I'm with you, I couldnt put up with a barking dog.Those no-bark collars were life savers.Lived there for 2 years before moving out a ways. Never had a complaint in those 2 years.Sometimes the batteries would be dead and I would put them on dogs anyways. Worked like a charm. Collar smart dogs who were too smart !!!

ive had good luck with the worst of my barkers and have never had any trouble with them not opening when being hunted

Just a tip for any cur people that might be reading this: Ive never had a bark collar seem to have a negative effect on a pure hound's hunting. But yes, I have seen some real adverse effects on curs.

My cur dogs have never been real bad anyway, but they do bark if they smell a coon or a cat. And guess what, the collars do not distinguish between bordom barking and barking on game.

I think a dog needs to learn there are places and times where barking is not allowed no matter what, including in the box when other dogs are working a track on the ground and they can smell it in the box. I dont allow my dogs to bark in this situation either. But I guess the point I am getting at is, I have had a cur be inadvertantly broke off barn cats by the bark collar when I was not home (and I am very rarely home). She is now being used on bobcat and does fine, but had a little obstacle to overcome.

I have seen open curs, get quieter when hunting after the use of these collars also. Not hounds, mind you.

Here's another thing about them: If you leave one on a dog and turn him on game, them collars dont know the dog is running good game either! Of course, I would never do anything that dumb , but I know someone who did one time. The dog was not ruined, but a bit confused for few minutes.

If you want to dump all your pups on a deer and dont have enough remote collars to go around, well, there you go.

I have had two cur dogs completely ruined by the collars well, not me but someone I know, becouse I... I mean, HE had the dogs kenneled next to a sporting clays five stand. He didn't realize the dogs were getting shocked when the shotguns were being fired if the dogs were outside of their house at the time. I dont know if all brands will do this, but I know one brand that will.

I wouldn't be telling you these things because I dont really want anyone to know how stupid this one guy really is, but just hoping I might save a dog somewhere.

There sure is a difference in the intensity of this problem in different strains and breeds of dog! I had a pair of black and tans who had monstrous voices and could not be shut up. The male would bark right through the shock collar at times. They drove me nuts and were gone shortly. Might have been the best dogs ever born. Didn't matter. I cant stand that uncontrolled barking.

The absolute best dogs I have ever known did not bark on the chain or in the kennel. They just watched everything quietly, knowingly, even as youngsters.

david I have to politely dissagree...my two are smart enough not to bark when they have their bark collars on and bark when they have them off. I have seen my two sit under a tree all afternoon with a cat in it with their bark collars on.(they got off thier chains) Not a peep outa either they aint dumb but they still had the fur. But take them off and its a totaly differnt story. But then maybe my two are smarter than the average cur lol

The best are made by tri-tronics... they use a $5 battery but can last up to 6 months !! and have 5 levels of stimulation and count the number of activations.. They are hugely better than those old collars that had the rubber senson on the collar.... cant even compare...

I generally put them on the problem dogs when I leave in the morning and take them off when I get home to feed so when you set them down they turn off and save the battery...

Its just not gonna git it telling the neighbors to "Please be patient I"m spending more "time" with the dog to teach him not to bark"

Theres about a million things that can get a dog barking in the kennel during the day... including bordem.... but thats just one.. .anything from mice to a siren ... the neighbors and animal control dont really give a flip WHY they are barking.. just that they are...

Dittos on the reasons Waycool. Barking is barking no matter what causes it.

Against my better judgement I let one of my best tenants get a small dog a couple weeks ago.She lives in a 5 unit complex I own.Last week Thanksgiving day I get calls from the other tenants that her dog has been barking in her apartment all day.Couldnt reach the tenant by phone as she was gone for the day.I left my family at home to go see what I could do.By the time I got there ,she had gotten my message and had gone home and taken the dog with her !!! She told me that the only reason the dog barked all day was that he had gotten locked in the bathroom by accident while she was gone.I told her I could care less why he was barking ,the fact that he barked all day was the problem.
