bark callars for hounds

i have a 9 month old blue tick male and i am haven a hell of a time teaching him that barking is for hunting not for all day all night. do u think bark callars are good to use for hounds i dont want to ruin the bark for hunting.

i think they work a charm. But if iam home and they are barking i go and let them know myself. I think that teaches them a little better. But if iam having problems with them when iam gone then heck yeah they work good.

They are a junk gizmo gadget for laziness and lack of knowledge. teach the dog not to bark and be dedicated to it. If you don't spend the time with the dog enforcing your rules, you are a prime candidate to purchase a no bark collar. It will take some persistence, but very doable.

I have to agree with Larry. When I get a pup, he spends the next 6-8 months with me every where I go in my truck. He learns all the basics in that time. Teach them when they are young who is the pack leader and you won't have most of the problems other houndsmen have with thier dogs. The reason hounds bark all the time is they are bored! They are bored because they are sitting in a kennel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with nowhere to go and nothing to do. So they bark at everything that stimulates them. Instead of correcting the barking, maybe look at why he is barking and correct that, his bordem.

well i guess im a lazy useless sack of crap, i like em, atleast i get a full nights sleep! not sure about your guys dogs but mine are yard barkin SOB'S it doesnt matter how firm you are as soon as you turn around they are right back at it, just dont leave the collar on them too long they will get sores, i generally can keep them under control by yellin at them but somedays i just get fed up and slap one on, and usually just do it to the culprits who keep starting the barking.

Apparently you two don't have to go to work :lol:

. I think there great and I use them when I'm not home, when I'm home I use a hotshot to let them know who's boss and barking isn't acceptable when there kenneled or tied up.Start hunting him and the barking will slow down and should eventually stop.

What a bull%$#@ statement! They are a great training aid,notice I said "aid" and not method.Boredom is probably the most previlent cause to nuisance barking.Keep them tuckered out and quiteness does very often come hand in hand.But,then you get that one that his breeding and youthful energy keeps him going 24/7 even after hunting and then you will come to appreciate a no-bark.

The answer to your question is No, bark collars will not limit a hound when and while it's hunting. In my opinion, bark and shock collars were one of the greatest things ever developed for a hound owner. My dogs usually get one warning then a collar, and they realize immediately the old man is done with that crap...........

I think those no-bark collars are great. When a dog is in the kennel and I am away for 10 hrs working, how the heck can I teach them no barking in the kennel.

I imagine the guys that say that means I am lazy must just yell real loud to each other and not use 2- way radios, same with telemetry right ? Why use tracking collars when you can just follow the dogs on foot and you would always know ehere they are

you can train a dog or some dogs not to bark without a bark collar-or at least bark less-

ive never been able to do it , but i know somebody that did once

i dont have much experience with bark collars-

i had a couple in the past and they were junk - gizmo gadgets like larry said-

the old tritronics with the sensor on the collar-
broke in no time --

had another/cant remember what brand ,worked good but ate expensive batteries -
i dont have one thats working rite now -

so if your using them and like them-

what brand- ? are they rechargable?

how long do they last, etc

i might try one again-

i had a buddy that had a lot of dogs ,lived right in town- very close complaining neighbors-

he would drive them in the dog house with a broom anytime they barked-

zero tolerance- he would crawl out of bed in middle of nite and broom them into dog house-

worked pretty welll -

im just glad i dont have close neighbors--

they also complained about the broom --

i've always had respect for guys who keep dogs quiet without bark collars.. thats no easy task when u got more than 4-5 especially.

i'm with pete, i cant

, they know my truck and when it leaves.. they know when im here and there quiet then. i have neighbors, need to keep the peace. just the problem ones get a tritronics bark collar. its near sliced bread status compared to the older stuff

ive heard guys put down people who use em.. i laugh cause they work and work good. when u have a job and neighbors u need them.. dogs learn fast.
