I find it hard to keep a dog around that u half to train to hunt! There are so many dogs out there that have the drive and determination that spending the time and money on a dog that u half to teach it what it already should know! That is to hunt i like to train a dog what not to hunt.
DON'T get me wrong i think its good what u are doing on giving this dog a chance i don't know the dog it might come on strong and fast giving the opportunity! GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING....

I agree on trying to train a dog to hunt. I don't even know how you would go about it...
Training for me has invovled simple obediance and then stoping them from running off game.

The hunt is in there already and its just a matter of exposing them to the stuff you want and shutting them down on the stuff you don't. I think I have been lucky, and also my setup likly has something to do with it. My dogs roam free on a 10 acre orchard surrounded by natl forest. We also have chickens running loose so all this draws in the critters. Bears, foxes ect like apples and the cats try snatching chickens once in a while.

I don't know where your from BuckNAze, but I know where I come from no local shelter is gonna let me "borrow" a cat to see if my dogs will take after it!
Also noticed you posted a comment about using barn cats to train those pups, is that Legal where your from? You probably should be keeping that shit to yourself, if not for your own reputation, for the other houndsmen on here.
Do or say what you want, I've only been on here for a short period of time myself and have only been bear hunting for 4 years, but I do enjoy this forum since I've been on it and if you've navigated around it at all you'd respect the fact that, thats the kind of crap you shouldn't be bragging about on a public forum!
