Two out of a million, but not believeable by most!
I told about them in other posts already.
The pup at the head treed her own, that means alone without other dogs, bobcat at 6 months and her own lion two weeks later. If they want to start early, I'm all for it.

Thats awesome! My 7 month old pup who is at least half Cameron, dont know her other side (shelter pup), just picked up on striking bear yesterday, I was pretty proud. But treeing her own bobcat at 6 months, thats awesome! Whens your next litter avaliable. Just started construction on my house/property and will be out of my little love shack and have some more room for another pup, which is going to be a Cameron for sure!

In order to do that I started them at 12 to 14 weeks and worked up from there. It takes alot of time and the right kind of training.
Not sure on the next litter.

You still raising Camerons liontracker? Or are you switching over to that new cross you made?

Understandable, Liontracker. -Would say you were demanding a bit above awerage if these Camerons, with their looks as well, didnt make keepers for you.

This post is about starting them early and that is what I do. I have found that by demanding more than average, they turn out better than average. I start all my young dogs on foot. That way I can teach them to be relentless on a track and stick with what they start. They also learn that they are hunting for me and not themselves. This way instills discipline at an early age.

Yeah, I'm all with you Liotracker.
I like to start them as young as possible to, but since most of my hunting(in time spent) is done freecasting, I have to start a bit different. I start spending time in the woods when the pups are around 10 weeks, in gamefree eareas though, to develop their search and to make them learn that they will have to come back to me after they have done their thing. When snow comes I start the tracktraining, cause my hounds better know damn well, that if I put their nose in a track, they are going to stick to that track, even if other species of desired game jumps and crosses the track they are on.

My last post was not an effort to try and make this thread a Bluetick/Cameron thread, if that was it looked like. It was rather my, not so good, way of trying to complement a way of starting hounds that I agree upon and a great line of hounds......

My little pup training ground is a patch of oakbrush, about 120 feet by 200 feet, with a half dozen of firewood piles scattered around in it. There are two nice cedar trees for them to tree in. There are a few young cats about the same age as the pups living in there. It provides alot of action and keeps their attention. Then at 4-5 months I start letting them chase the jackrabbits to build up their speed. From there, it is just a matter of showing them a Bob or Lion track, they usually take it from there. After a few runs with the older dogs I take them out alone and hunt them solo. Once they tree their own, they go back and hunt with the pack. If they can't tree their own...later. All this early training is done with me on foot.

Funny that you say that about chasing rabbits. My 2nd pup I got from the lady at the shelter got rid of her for a couple reasons, one of them was she had rabbits and this pup had all but eliminated most of them and because she would jump her fence. I would love to talk to you more about training sometime too liontracker as you see to know what you're doing very well. Im all about learning as I try to be the best I can be in anything I am doing, and I expect my hounds to be the best they can be. That might mean that they arent the best hounds ever but the best they can be for their ability. This pup has been treeing housecats at her old owners since 3 1/2 months old, but we all know thats nothing like treeing a bobcat. I think she will be good but only time will tell. Now im working on her striking. Do you have any insight on starting these young pups early on striking a bobcat or a lion off of the box? I know its hard and would take time but do you think its possible to train or teach them?

I never purposely rig for lion or cat. But some of my older hounds will do it naturally. As for the training, I would think a caged critter with scent on it or even a hide with scent along side the road with the wind blowing across the road would be a good start.

Thats what I was thinking. I have a frozen bobcat but dont know how much scent it still holds if any. Got them striking bears but thats just because we have so many they learned from my older Cameron no problem. Cats would be harder it seems. There are less and some seem to try to avoid roads, but we also see their tracks cross the roads which is usually how we look for them to start a track after a fresh snow. My wife wants a another Cameron pup here in a couple of months after we are in our new house so if you ever make another cross with those 2 dogs please let me know. The wife gets what she wants, hahaha. Thanks agian liontracker, been very helpful

Well she deer hunts with me. She hasnt really been out hound hunting with me till this week I finally got her to go out with me after work to do some training on striking. Brought her out and my female struck one that the other ones couldnt smell (not a big deal), wasnt a really good strike. Next we go a little further and she blows up again, but this time all my dogs do, 3 that have never struck before and it clicked, 2 are 7 month old pups. We go out the next day and she is just amazed on how my Cameron female can smell bears off the box like that. She thinks its just crazy how they can strike something like that. I think im getting her hooked, haha. This fall my goal is to tree some bears and bring her to the tree with me. Although for some reason she is deathly afraid of bears, an encounter she had when she was young I guess. But I think she will be even more hooked after she sees her first one in the tree. She is not enrolled so she cant hunt on my reservation but she can definetly go with me. She loves how Belle, my cameron, is. She loves how easy she is to handle, her prey drive, how good they are with kids, how mellow they generally are (definetly not all the time). She is just a great dog and so is her daughter. They seem relatively easy to trash break as well. She wants a full kennel of Camerons one day, as do I. But yes she hunts and has been getting more envolved which I love!
