Wolves Killed my Dog

Sheimer, Very sorry to hear about your dog. The lady you spoke to is Caroyln Simes, she likes her wolves and has went the rounds with some ranchers over losses they have encured due to the elusive lobo.

Unfortunaly I don't think much is going to happen with the reimbersment of pets and hunting dogs, untill some well-to-do bird hunter gets his pointer whacked. And that is tough when those dogs don't range very far.

It's beyond a joke that you have to worry about this happening while out hunting. The liberal treehugging pillow biters will work to keep the wolves as they are ruining the want of outdoorsman to go hunt. They don't mind that the wolves desrtroy and kill everything in site, as long as us low life hunters aren't able to take an occasional animal. The wolves can decimate the elk, moose, sheep, and buffalo herds, but we as sportsman aren't wanted to manage the animals by hunting and taking a small fraction of the animals, versus the wolves wiping everything out. Oh, one other thing. A houndsmen got his four best dogs killed by wolves on the Greauvant in Wyoming a few weeks ago as well. To make it worse I heard he seen the wolves coming over the ridge but couldn't get to his dogs before they did.

Sheimer, I am very sorry to hear about your dog. This is always my greatest fear when turning loose and I figure I will eventually lose dogs to wolves but I haven't yet.

We can all bitch and raise hell all we want but the solution lays in the hands of the people in the woods. Increasing the quota will not help what good will it do if the packs are half the size they are now??? Wolves usually run in packs. A pack of 3 will kill dogs just as fast as a pack of 6. The solution is zero wolves.

Are we all just timid whiners or are we men with solutions. Our grandfathers didn't have to bitch and whine they took care of it and we can too.

i know what your going through i just lost my two best dogs 3 weeks ago to a problem bear, the wild life branch hear went oops. never again will i do that. and 3 years ago i lost a bitch to wolve while doing a collaring program. it sucks really bad i still dont whant to believ it happend, feal for yuo bud. sorry about your luck

We're talking about the management of mountain lions, bears, coyotes, bobcats...or anything else that can make a negative impact on big game populations. And we will continue to do it in the straight forward, go for the jugular when necessary manner in which we have covered the wolf reintroduction.....

I just got off the phone with the local rep this morning and politely got told the standard political response: "I'll look into it". What a crock o' $hit. I'm done trying to do the "correct" thing. He asked what dog it was and when I told him it was the one that I took to the school "pet day" with my 7 year old son, he about shit. Come to find out that us hunters and our mean hounds actually aren't that bad and can have manners and behave in a school full of kids and all their pets(rabbits, cats, squirrels an so on). I think that they assume that because they hunt, they are mean and vicious killers. When he realized that they are also family pets you could hear the tone change in his voice. It really doesn't matter though, nothing is gonna change on their end anyways. Things on my end definately are gonna though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sure like the idea of getting hunting dogs and pets on the reimbursment list, even though any amount of money probably isn't going to cover your loss.

Keep us posted on how things turn out. Definatly let me know if there is anything I can do to help the cause.

If there are some groups that are set up like the LOBO group that Yaak talks about, it might be a good idea if we all got involved and joined as a group to protect our sport and the wildlife. These wolves will spread and we all will probably be faced with it sooner or later. If a group is set up right and they go about it professionally I think we should all support it. You know that humane society has supporters all over the world that donate money to fight battles they dont even know about (not that they wouldnt support it) but we need a professional/organized group to take a stand boys.

I too am sorry about your loss and I really hope there is some kind of compensation for it. I think the best thing to do is fight against it as a group. Maybe Yaak can give us some more insight about the LOBO group or a place where we can get some information on it.

It's a terrible thing but spotsmens groups and hounsmen do not see eye to eye.

Just wondering because you described a split race and some dogs treed the cat and the others got hit by wolves in the next canyon.
