Does not matter.....This is just a starting point. Just will be more areas closed to dogs.

But on the same hand they complain about the barking dogs around their camp grounds. Just one more step toward what Colorado has....

This would be something similar to like a land owner having 25,000 acres and being on his own land and seeing a bear and being able to shoot it and tag it instead of shooting it and turning it over to the DWR or leaving it lay....take for instence nine-mile range creek where there are 1000s of acres of private ground thats is not easily acessed by the public.

If TRUE houndsmen would honestly think about it ..... and houndsmen it this state had ANY kind of ETHICS at all H.O objective on our lion wouldnt have hurt a thing BUT the female and kitten killing idiots basically had to ruin lion hunting for the rest of us!!!!

Guys- I'm just a dumba$$ from Montana, please keep this in mind while reading my post.....
Here we have a quota system for our lions in regions 3 thru 7. I'm the most familiar with region 5. Specifically HD 520. Here we have a quota of 8 lions total or 4 females, which ever comes first. Once the quota closes, we are able to chase only until the season times out. We rarely ever close the quota. It works well. We have plenty of cats to chase.
Why would it be different for you guys in Utah? I'm sure bears are a little different, but I don't know how much.
I wish we would do this for bears up here. I feel that we could control the quality much better of the animals harvested.
Just my .02 and honest questions.
Scott

problem here is utah dwr will not put out a female sub quota.... so when the toms are wiped out people start killen females and kittens....average age of lions killed in the stated is roughly 1.5yrs old ....that says alot for the so called houndsmen in the state....so due to the unwillingness of the DWR to use female subquotas these same guys would wipe out our bears also....SO basicaly no ethics for the sport is the problem we have here...

yarddog,
Im dont think there is anything written up on the new 12yr plan that is posted for the public to read the plan is still in the works and will be discussed at all dec rac meetings and proposed to the wildlife board there after....I attended all of the 12yr plan meetings ....so if you want to call me and talk about it dial me up.....it is just important that all houndsmen fill the DWR board meeting to protect our sport as it for us to show up at rac meetings to get our voices in the minutes to be reviewed at the board meeting...

Few comments here.
1st the fall HO is not gonna happen. Not just a couple years ago the dwr was considering to scrap the fall hunt because of "elk hunting" conflicts?? We barely held on to that. Dont even dream of it!! Sorry new guy to utah big money horned game trumps houndsmen every time!!!
2nd study history boys how did the lions get destroyed it started small and turned into the free for all it is today. Thanks don peay and the sfw. Wake up houndsmen they always start out small then pound ya!!! The same unethical people will hunt these bear.
SIDE NOTE:
By the way didnt i see don on the news crying about the wolfs. Now the lions are gone and still no deer. The "sfw" swore the lion was the problem during the 90's.The udwr will listen to and act upon what ever he says even when he's WRONG!! Or did you all forget who got us here, surely im not that old.
3rd Just like dawg says the bears in this state will not rebound we just dont have the habitat. We will have plenty of houndsmen to participate in the free for all it has already been tried and proved!!
4th If the dwr "truly cared" they would not be objected to a fe-male subquota. It seems to be the only thing that keeps this harvest stratgy in line.
Keep the conversation rolling!!
The more that know...................

so lets say we all show up to these meeting what is it everyone is wanting to gain? are we trying to keep things the same or is there some ideas how changes could be made to benefit everyone. i would bet we have a better chance of convincing them of a "better" plan then we will convincing them to keep things the same. they already dont think our current plan is workng so change will happen. as houndsmen we need to come up with some alternative ideas that could realisticly work and present them at these meeting. i am hearing alot of what wont work lets hear what will? sounds like female sub quotas could be a good thing to really push for? i think keeping our seasons as far from popular hunting and camping seasons the less trouble we will have.

Leave it the way it is. I am not sure why they think need to change it.
Maybe someone on here has the facts and can explain to me the need to change the Bear to HO? Please just the facts if anyone has them.

Amen to Neff. Seems like hound guys have about the shortest memories I know. Hasn't been long ago they changed our lions to HO.
Leave it alone.
And by the way...I know a lot of "boot hunters" out there running around with dogs.
Where did all the lions go???? Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!!!!

this is the type of quota the dwr is talking about....not a H.O objective free for all like the lion hunt....when it was discussed....it was a hunt where hounds would not be allowed...with no interuption in our spring or fall hunts
