why buy out west ?

Post by cecil j. »

PIGLET wrote:I didn't mean that they all went back east but i know in the 80's there was 3 or 4 houndmen in north carolina that bought alot of dogs from this man Also a gentleman from maine named Dan Liberty also the man who ran foggy mtn guides in maine. I know the last 10, 15 years he's selling more dogs to guys out west here, but back then the word was sell them back east for the big dollar.. I think it has to do with salesmanship and perception to who has some money..
hey why buy puppys out west when the cobbra line of plott hound lives-on in w.va and is used on pig, bear, bobcat & lion ? they are awfull good natural born too make biggame hound if hunted and if in a good handlers and good hunters hands with his other trained-out 1-3 other kept hounds ! Bear dogs arn`t made they are born and a good biggame hunter weeds through pups too locate that special pup / you can count on one hand in your hunten area the real beardogs that will tree 3-4 or 4-6 bear/solo...most of them calaber of hounds is worth 30-45 grand the price of a new 4 wheel drive dodge or ford ! a top hound has sold for the price of a new 4x4 hunten rigg sence 60 and befor that in the early 50`s they sold for 100 dollar bill in 61 for $ 300 . I offered Boone Shockly of Mt Aukum $ 20,000.00 for a 2 yr old male a black dog and he didn`t sell him too me and he didn`t laughf either/ by thunder he got half mad and said the dog wasent worth that kind of money and don`t ever do that a gin ! I said I offered that much cause I didn`t want too slite ya Boone. I mean he was not just a great hunter but was a building contractor and I offerend him what I at the time thought he might consider sellen the dog for/ back in the 84 erra ! a little later on I was glad he haden`t took me up on it cause the nice young dog just wasent that calabered on bear/but showed it on bobcat and lion however. I give Dough Wattson of Cowrederspot Pen. 750 I think it was for a 10 wk old english puppy out of Speck x Tinna and it was a third time same made proved crossing mateing and I waited on a list and for 18 months for that cross and my pup and he shiped it too me in ca. That pup run and treed up first time in the woods solo at 6 months of age/with a coon up !

22 short hua

timberman wrote:Piglet in reference to the fox dogs running coyotes dont have much problem only seen it happen a few times not alot of coytes here but if they run anythng but gray fox or bobcat we treat it as off game our biggest problem is deer and sometimes red fox or coon we usually fire off a round up in the air. with the shotgun and they will knock the door off the dog box trying to get in most of them are gun shy which ok because we dont shoot any game on the ground anyway IF we have to shoot a bobcat out of tree we use 22short that dont make lot of noise
I use too do that on bear just below an sort of behind the ear/ tissue paper thin walled too the brain . Only thing is on bobcat/ya don`t hit him just so he might jump out and come for ya/ thats what one of sonny kendricks son told me happened too him/ by golly he started carryen a shotgun (noise or no noise) !

bowhunters post

Post by cecil j. »

[quote="bowhunter7"]I don't know about bobcat dogs, but the ones I looked into were finished bear dogs and western outfitters were selling them with very lofty price tags. The bobcat dog stuff is a little off topic, but from the little I've heard about them it's harder to find a good bobcat dog than it is to find a good bear dog and this may justify a pleasure hunter paying more for a finished bobcat dog than a finiBigGameHoundsmen.com Forshed bear dog. As far as your comment about a dog being worth what it's worth is that really true? What I mean is we might place a value on our dogs ($100 to priceless), but that's not necessarily what the dog is worth on the market. I think value and worth are two different things. Like anything else, I think a dog is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. For example, I am looking for a solid strike to tree bear dog. I find one in Idaho for $8,500 and get him flown in for a 30 day trial. He turns out to be a great dog and everything I'm looking for, but at the same time I have another dog on trial out of NC and he performs just as well. Now my point is that dog from Idaho may be worth $8,500 to s Hey I just found your post and you was right as too what ya actually said/ I read and post awhole lot Bowhunter and I just must of speedread your post and not of really slowd down and read exactly how an what you actually posted/ I was wron about ya budd ! I sure thoug you replyed as I pm`d ya I thought ya did. I looked all around and finally come acrost hound prices and much later after the fact of your pms too me/ HELL if I was you Id be fummen hot myself/ sorry I hate it happened and I`m correcting my self in print maybe youll feel better bout my foot-n-mouth on this mix-up ?!
