urine smell?

First my new dog kennel is one of those metal portable carports you see at all the used car lots. It is 12x20 so I poured my slab to slope. It slopes into my dog septic system with consits of 2 4inch pvc pipes that go into 55 gallon drums and then into the drain field. The outside of the kennel is wraped in cedar fence. Well it seems that the cedar seems to wick up the urine and now the boards smell like pee. 2 times a week I was it down with a blaech solution. But a few days later the smell is back. What do you guys use for the urine smell? Thanks jason

I have the same problem, its the concrete that holds the smell. My brothers dogs are on dirt and the only time they smell is when rains real hard and then not half as bad as mine.I have to clean mine all the time 2-3 times a week to keep the smell down.If I spray mine down once a day they stay ok.I will never put my dogs on a slab again.

spend the money on a good concrete sealer. not from a hardware store go to a contractor supply house (glaze & seal is what I use on all my seal jobs and kennel)

Anything special other than clean it before putting down on existing slab that has been in place for a few years

a GOOD cleaning with a pressure washer the day before. it will have to be no less then 75 degress uses a sprayer to apply push around puddles a broom let dry 24 hour before you put your dog on it about 48 hour before you wash it down

i dont seem to have that problem. i have a 8x18 slab and its not even sealed. maybe i am just lucky. i have the rest of the pen that the dogs run in filled with crusher dust. i scoop poop every day and hose it out, once a week i use 1/3 cup bleach to one gallon water and spray everything (concrete and crusher dust) let it sit for about 10 minutes and then spray the concrete off with the hose. about once a month i give it a good scrub with simplegreen and water then hose it off. i dont know if what i do is better, but i have neighbors with their bedroom 10 feet away and mine is about the same and there is no smell at all. hope that helps. good luck.

Its called "BARN-DRI" You can find it at any farm store. IUt nuetralizes the ammonia in the urine. Its used in kennels, livestock barns, anywhere the smell could be a problem.

my kennel is completely eclosed except for the front is chain link. i clean it twice a day scoop and spray it down. concrete is sloped and runs into a drain path then into a 4 inch pipes that goes down threw the concrete and outside and then over the hill. i have smell during the summer but in the winter is only smells right when i spray it down but it goes away real quick
