I live and hunt in central oregon and the mostly white dog is a registered walker but im not sure what line. (i've only had her for a week) she was given to me. the black and white dog is a walker bluetick mix that a buddy of mine gave me as well. lucky i guess! they both hunt verry well and the only reason that they were given to me is well the walker mix my friend gave me to help me get my pup goin and he has a couple camerons that he runs so he helped me out on that deal and the walker female was given to me because a old gentlemen that used to run hounds when he was younger and wanted to give it one last go before his time was up bought her and well he didn't quite make it long enough to see her run anything and his son gave her to me. then i have a pup that is out of the old lee brothers blood that is 10 weeks old and showin some good attitude towards things that i am really exited about. persuit season is open here and i have chased 2 bobcats and treed 2 and the first one was about 120 ft. up in a huge ponderosa so i couldn't get any pictures. that was yesterday, and today i decided to take the wife and kids along and it worked out pretty well for us. kill season opens on dec 1st and i hope that i can keep up on the good luck but i know how bobcat hunting goes and 99 pct of the time you end up in a big ole rock pile, but who knows i just enjoy getting to hear my dogs and getting out in the woods. thanks
Nice work... at getting your family to the tree, that is. I haven't had that opportunity yet. My kids are still too young to take along on a cat hunt and all my wife gets is my stories and a few pictures. But one day I'll get to show them. I bet they enjoyed the experience with you.
15 min tops, they went up to the top of the butte and right back down to us. hadn't seen a track all morning and then all of a sudden there were 4 seperate tracks within 200 yds of eachother all headin up hill and all red hot. i couldn't have asked for a better situation for my wife and especially my kids. my son was pretty pumped about the race because he got to stand on the dog box and listen to the dogs the entire time heading away and coming right back to us and then putting the cat up a tree 92 yds from the truck so he got to hear the dogs bark change over to a tree bark. it was just a sweet deal, couldn't have ben any better!!!!!!
Nice work! Getting the family along is worth everything. I know the country you are hunting in if its not rocks it is a dang slash pile, cliff hole, or something. Good luck and keep the family along.
Marshall, you are blessed. Keep an eye on those dogs, and let us know how they do. You said you were lucky, and I guess you are. But I am guessing that your dogs are not lucky. Treeing one might have been luck, but two in a row, I doubt very much if it is lucky dogs. I am guessing the elderly man knew what he was doing when he bought that white dog.
Be careful with your family. Might want them to sit on the amazing memory of that hunt for awhile and keep them wanting more.
A person could easily take a family on dozens of bobcat hunts without getting the opportunity to walk them 100 yards to a tree. Some kids cant be easily broke from hunting, but some kids can be broke forever by one real negative experience hunting. Be at least as careful with kids as you would with doing the wrong thing at the wrong time with a puppy.
Man I am super happy for you. You must be living right.
I have taken people bobcat hunting for their first time, and they got to experience an easy day of catching a bobcat. But I almost feel bad about it because they got a false impression of the sport. They had not the slightest idea of the blood sweat and tears that went toward catching that cat in the months and years previous.
I hope every day is like the last two for you. If that dog is what I think it is, they just might be. Hopefully you know enough to be very very thankful. You are blessed.
Good work Marshall. Did you get to take that pup along for the ride, or was he too damn awnry to put in the box? Take care buddy, and keep us posted. It sounds like you got it handled and I'll be headed your way for some pointers.
david, mike, and pat. thank you all for looking and david yes i am verry blessed and i think i got a pretty good thing goin so i'm gonna ride this sucker for all its worth. I remember the first time i ever went out bobcat hunting and that little sucker went into some stuff that had so much blow down you couldn't hardly walk through it and i was with my buddy that gave me that black and white walker cross that is in my pictures and at the time it was the only completely honest dog that he had and he is the only one that got let go. well we figured that he was having a bit of a tough time in there so we walked in to him and you could see where he had worked all over the place trying to figure out where that cat had gone and so we split up and each made a huge circle around that thicket. I was about 100 yds away when he yelled that he had the track so i went up to him and could see where the cat had jumped from log to log to log so we started fallowing it and at the end of one of the logs we saw where it jumped down at the base of a tree and you could see it had crouched down, so i shined my flashlight up in the tree and there it was on the first branch up and we couldn't believe it. so that was my first time ever going and we cought a nice cat and i bet we went 10 more races before we cought another one, so believe me when i say that i was really exited when i cought my first one saturday and it just blew my mind that lightning struck twice and i cought one on sunday when i really wanted it to happen the most with my family along for the ride. so thanks again gentlemen and good luck!
p.s. mike ill just say that ole huck...... well he is a quick learner and i think he will make a damn fine dog and if he don't well then its on me and not him. c ya
that is awesome that the family got the chance to share it with you. my kids love hunting the dogs as much as i do. i hope there are many more trees with you and your family at the bottom, and a nice cat in the top.
