Cougar stalking east side?

Police were informed of two mountain lion sightings on Quail Canyon Dr. in east Logan’s Cliffside area early Friday morning and are advising the public to be aware of potential future sightings.

“We don’t want to create a panic with this,” said Logan Police Lt. Rod Peterson, “We just want our community to know about this information and be vigilant and use good judgment.”

Peterson said the call was received at 9:40 a.m. Friday by a homeowner who claimed to see the animal twice earlier that morning when it was still dark.

Reports show the man said he saw two green eyes looking at him about 2 feet from the ground. He added that he heard a sound that resembled the cry of a mountain lion. Peterson said officers had no reason to doubt the complainant’s claim and that evidence collected near the sighting was compatible with his account.

“The complainant said he said he saw two green eyes looking at him in an area of his property below the deer fence,” said Peterson. “We have notified the Division of Wildlife Resources about this.”

Peterson said police want people in the Cliffside area and individuals who run on trails near the deer fence to know about the sighting and use extra caution as temperatures continue to drop.

He added that homeowners should secure outside garbage containers and better monitor their pets.
