depends on what kind of race you want to here. what kind of game you are going to chase. alot of people like a cold nosed trail them up tree hound.i personaly like a medium nosed dog.i would rather cold track for 30 min to an hour before the jump than 3 to 4 hours. but i hunt dry ground with lots of game . i can leave the house and sometimes run 2 cats and be home in five hours. i think the treeing walker is the best all around dog. to catch bobcats you need a dog that can keep pressure on the cat.there are dogs that are quite that run fast but they over run the track making 20 to 30 sec loses.there are dogs that move a track slower that make less loses therefor not letting the cat rest. you can catch just as many cats with either type of dog.if you have one of each it makes for a pretty good team once they learn to honer each other.when the fast dog over runs the track the slower dog trails it through fast dog takes it over again and so on. pressure catches cats. treeing walkers with a little running walker
