Dallin's First of the season

Post by Mr.pacojack »

Started out this morning, It was -22 degrees, which felt warm compared to the last 2 days ( -27 and -25) It has only been getting up to about 8 degrees. Anyway it was blowing today pretty good. The snow has not settled so it was blowing it around pretty good. Dallin has been bugging me to get his own dogs and he has some nice pups coming up. He was trying to find a lion track today and was going to turn his pups out on it, They are 10 months old, but smokin. No luck at 12:45pm he found a Bobcat track that had about a inch of snow in it, so he thought he better try Old Buster, he took off on it but was silent for almost a mile (gps) He thought if he opened he wouldn't be able to hear him so he dumped old Dudly From Canada ( tntoutfitting ) When he caught up they stated to open and plugging along on it pretty good, working it thru some pretty bad drifts and bare spots. Long story short they treed it.
Dallin still wanted to get his pups in on it so he turned them into the tree, what the heck they might as well get to tree, huh? They got there in no time and started to tree too. Dallin got to the tree and was sporting his new pistol. He got buck fever and didn't make a good hit, cat jumped ,He called me on the phone in a panic feeling real bad about the shot, asking what He should do, I told him just let them work it out, since they didn't see the cat jump. pretty soon the pups found the track and the race was on again and in no time they had it treed again, little over a half mile (gps) He got in and made his first Bobcat kill of the season. I got there and this is one happy boy. Congrats Son

Guess that answers my question on the other thread.
Good for him, nice looking country. When you say "treed it" you mean in a shrub?
I dont see any in the back ground ?

Blacktail, 5 or 6 foot Cedar trees, but you are right, nothing but bushes really. It is pretty hard to keep the bobcats from jumping in this type of country. They tree alot easier and stay treed in bigger timber. I love running them in pine or cottonwood country, they are a whole different cat. Day and night different.
Thanks guys he is walking on cloud 9 tonight. I can hardly stand to be in the same room as him
He has it skinned out and had a bunch of help doing it too. This is Kid Rock and Jossie Wells from Poser.

Awsome! Now he will be as confused as I am about these other areas where they cant run bobcats when it gets cold :?:

Thanks for letting us in on the story and the great memories it brings back for each and every one of us. We all had that first bobcat, and it is a great day! I know he is proud. Could not possibly be as proud as his dad. Looks like you raised a good one.

Thanks Guy. He is still walking around with his head in the clouds. We got up at 4:30 but it was snowing pretty hard so we didn't make it out today. Thanks again. And Good hunting to all.
