Garmin Issues!!!

Post by houndcrzy »

Im having alot of trouble with my Garmin tracker. My buddy I hunt withs unit works great and mine CONSTANTLY loses signal with the dogs. We have both mine and his dogs on both systems and he always has em and I never do. Dont matter if were a mile apart or standing right beside each other. I can have 4 dogs out and not have a signal on one of them at times. If my buddies didnt work so good I woulda smashed this thing a long time ago! Any suggestions on what might be the issue or does it just need sent back?
Thanks

you have to update them every so now and then, you download the softeware of the garmen website and then plug your handheld unit into the computer and it should work again. It also helps if you clear your tracks, they get full and it slows your trcker down

I would just send it back to them. I have one in to them right now and plan on sending my other into them as soon as I get my other one back. I think if we keep sending them in that maybe they will get the idea and make the corrections they should have made to begin with.
I have the same problems as you with mine.

Frustrating! It worked good all summer roading and training and then "spits the bit" when tha dam season opens. Just thought it was weird that one works great and the other is useless! Guess ill keep following the beep beep beep for now......

Your not the only one mine has been losing dogs too, we actually lost our dogs for 6 days because of this. Looking in to the beep beep kind as a back up.

You woulda thought it would have fried em both though? We've bin out together at least a dozen times and his is bang on. Mine used to be the same but as of late is terrible. Im sending it back as soon as I can, we still have three tracking systems on the go so we should be fine for now

Updating does need to be done, and that may be the problem. You could also try reinstalling the software in the unit if given the option.

Also a master reset can be done on the unit. You will have to re enter your collars, and will lose any waypoints/tracks. You can save those using the software that came with it. To do a master reset. press and hold the map and enter button while turning on. Then hit yes when it asks if you want to delete all user data.

Also you could have broken the antenna connection. I have seen this several times. It comes from over tightening the antennas when changing them around. With the antenna off grab the connector with your fingers. If you can wiggle it. Most likely have broken it. You only need to snug the antennas on lightly. Even seen a kid use a wrench to tighten the PBLRA. Was a pain to get it back off after that.

You may have to send it back if nothing else then.

Ohhh, and my dogs only wear the garmin anymore. Been a year with no beep beep stuff. I don't have to deal with any mountains though.

Did you just go to MYGARMIN.com to fix it? How often should you get the new version downloaded?
