Well it’s time for me to replace my Candi pup that I had to put down last week.
I am having trouble deciding what line of dog I want to try. I would really like to get into a line of dogs that have been line bred. I want to find a line that is reproducible so I have a greater chance of getting pups in the future that will satisfy me and my style of hunting.
I am not what you would call color blind but I do enjoy how pleasurable my redbones have been to hunt, train and keep. I had a bluetick out of Smiley’s Blue Rambo that was a GREAT dog. I thought I might try another one but am hesitant due to availability and the lack of other dogs from that line being used as cat dogs.
My question is: If you had one space available in your kennel for a young cat dog what would you fill it with and why?
A little about my preferences:
I hunt 4-5 days a week during the open season with no more than 4 dogs, so I need a dog with grit. I like a dog that is “iron” cold nosed. I enjoy working a cold track all day far better than driving around looking for a hot track all day. I like a dog that is relentless on a cold track. I like dogs that cold trail to catch then run to catch when the track heats up. I don’t believe speed catches anymore cats than brains, so I prefer brains. I like dogs with a strong work ethic (anyone who have ever hunted one knows what I’m talking about). I will only hunt females. I prefer the dog have strike dogs top and bottom.
So if you have a line that fits this bill or know someone that has dogs that might fill the bill please PM me as I don’t want to start a pissin match…….
Thanks, Don

Don, I should have a litter of linebred redbones on the ground by this summer. The parents have plenty of heart and brains and pretty decent noses. We don't rig dogs out here but a sister to the male is in Washington and rigs bear, lion, and bobcats and her owner says she's a good rig dog. I only run two dogs right now so they have to be able to go every time I hunt. I'm going to breed them so that I have something for myself and the extras will be sold. If you look on the redbone page you can see what the papers will look like. The male is the best dog I've ever owned and the female is only two but is a nice dog.
Montana Red Kennels - redbones that catch game and hold it until you get there.
