oregon coons

Post by walkersrule »

anyone doing any good on coons this year? i hunt them from time to time. the place i go usually has lots of coons, but it seems like there isnt the coons it usually has. i dont shoot very many out of there either. just wondering if anyone is dealing with the same problem. maybe they just arent in there yet? its not until mid january that i go there, but it should have more coons than it has in it right now.

I've been hunting over here in hermiston the past couple days for coons. Mostly private property and a few public spots. Seems to be a fair amount of coons like usual just too many dang locus trees and black berry patches. Shot two and put two more up and ran one more tonight.

Im not living down there anymore, but down around the umpqua. I got some friends that are treeing them every time they go out. But terriers are being used as well along the river in the thick stuff.. And it just seems like not many people hunt coons down there more bobcat and fox hunters..

There is still a pile of coons down in the Umpqua Valley. I don't hunt them as much as I used to but my dogs boxed two of them Sunday at about 1:00 in the afternoon. I had been by there a couple times that day, so I thought I had a hot bobcat cross the road. I let them down and they took the track right down the creek, about five minutes later I see two coons climbing an alder about fifty yards down the creek. It was kinda fun because I could see my dogs the whole way and I knew where they needed to end up. The best part was when my young dog took the track out of the blackberries and started treeing first. It made a nice training day out of a hard luck bobcat hunt. Back to the subject of coons, there lots to be had around Douglas County with the best hunting being on the private ground in the valley. Get to know a few people around here and a guy can hunt coons all over.
